"Damn!" says the little old lady....."I'd better go back and see if I can still find some. Thanks for the warning!"

"Well, now, not so fast," says the cop. "How did you get all that money?" "Did you steal it?"

"Oh, no", says the little old lady. "You see, my back yard backs up to the parking lot of the football stadium. Each time there's a game; a lot of fans come and pee in the bushes, right into my flower beds!"

"So, I go and stand behind the bushes with a big hedge clipper, and each time someone sticks his little thingy through the bushes, I say: $20 or off it comes!"

"Hey, not a bad idea!" laughs the cop. "OK, good luck! By the way, what's in the other bag?"

Well", says the little old lady, "not all of them pay up"....

How to avoid:Check on the bottom of the bottle there is a triangle sign and there will be a number on it.

If the number is higher than or equal to 5 --> then this bottle is safe to use.

Whatever number under 5, will release the chemical. For most bottle water, the number is 1.

Did you know chemical released by plastic water bottles can cause cancer
(It is not the water that affecting you but the chemical releasing from the bottle)

Causes of Brain Damage

1. No BreakfastPeople who do not take breakfast are going to have a lower
blood sugar level. This leads to an insufficient supply of nutrients to the brain
causing brain degeneration.

2. OvereatingIt causes hardening of the brain arteries, leading to a decrease
in mental power.

3. SmokingIt causes multiple brain shrinkage and may lead to Alzheimer
disease.

4. High Sugar consumptionToo much sugar will interrupt the absorption of proteins and
nutrients causing malnutrition and may interfere with brain
development.

polluted air decreases the supply of oxygen to the brain,
bringing about a decrease in brain efficiency.

6. Sleep DeprivationSleep allows our brain to rest. Long term deprivation from sleep
will accelerate the death of brain cells.

How To Remove Unwanted Body Hair

Removing unwanted hair from the body is a much required and disliked process. In a world where personal hygiene and appearances are given so much importance body hair removal is almost a necessity and not a choice. So what are the body hair removal quick tips that will ensure fairly painless and convenient hair removal.

Body Hair Removal Quick Tips vary according to the method of hair removal that you are selecting:

Laser Hair Removal -
This is perhaps the most advance technique of hair removal which uses laser energy to inhibit hair follicles.Choose a reputed laser hair removal clinic and talk to the doctor about various issues such as whether your skin tone is suitable for the process, amount of discomfort involved, etc. If your skin is darker then you may be advised to bleach beforehand the area from where hair has to be removed.

Avoid tanning the skin before a laser hair removal session.

You are allowed to shave off the body hair before laser hair removal as it is the hair follicle that is going to be treated and not the body hair. So unlike waxing you don't have to wait for the hair to grow a certain amount before you wax.
Mild discomfort may accompany the treatment and can be resolved by the use of a mild antiseptic lotion or gel.
The treatment requires a minimum of 2-3 sittings so schedule appointments in advance.
Ensure that you use a sunscreen of SPF 15 and higher after you have had laser hair removal.
Pay heed to the doctor's advice and instructions.

Waxing -
This method uses natural wax or that made from sugar for hair removal. The wax is applied on the skin and a strip over it. Then it is massaged on and removed in one quick motion.Pre waxed strips make the whole process convenient and quick. These strips come with ready to use wax sandwiched between and only need to be applied on the area you want to remove hair from rubbed on properly and then pulled off. They make the whole process of waxing neat and not messy. For delicate areas such as the face use facial wax strips only.
If you are using wax that needs to be kept at a certain temperature ensure that it is warm enough. The warmth of the wax is conducive to body hair removal.
If the skin is red after waxing treating it with ice will reduce the discomfort.
Apply a mild topical antiseptic if the painful aspect of waxing puts you off.
After waxing apply a non-alcoholic toner preferably one with the healing powers of aloe vera or chamomile.
Do not wax on acne affected areas.

Shaving -
Use a gender appropriate razor. A razor made for women is styled in a feminine fashion and will help avoid nicks and cuts.
Use the razor in smooth and long strokes against the hair, this will reduce any cuts.
Afterwards wash the shaved area well and moisturise. Depilatories -
Test the depilatory on your skin a day in advance before use on the rest of the body to ensure that there is no reaction.
Wash well to remove all hair and the effect of the chemicals.
Moisturise the skin with a lotion that will keep the skin soft and supple.
The problem with depilatories is that the hair reappears soon, so have a fixed routine for hair removal.

Electrolysis -
Ensure that you make your appointments well in advance.
Check if the centre will provide the use of a topical aesthetic.
Read up on the entire process so that you know exactly what you are getting into.

Now add up the total number of points.
OVER 60 POINTS : Others see you as someone they should "handle with care ." You're seen as vain, self-centered, and who is extremely dominant. Others may admire you, wishing they could be more like you, but don't always trust you, hesitating to become too deeply involved with you.

51 TO 60 POINTS : Others see you as an exciting, highly volatile, rather impulsive personality; a natural leader, who's quick to make decisions, though not always the right ones. They see you as bold and adventuresome, someone who will try anything once; someone who takes chances and enjoys an adventure. They enjoy being in your company because of the excitement you radiate.

41 TO 50 POINTS : Others see you as fresh, lively, charming, amusing, practical, and always interesting; someone who's constantly in the center of attention, but sufficiently well balanced not to let it go to their head. They also see you as kind, considerate, and understanding; someone who'l l always cheer them up and help them out.

31 TO 40 POINTS : Others see you as sensible, cautious, careful & practical. They see you as clever, gifted, or talented, but modest. Not a person who makes friends too quickly or easily, but someone who's extremely loyal to friends you do make and who expect the same loyalty in return. Those who really get to know you realize it takes a lot to shake your trust in your friends, but equally that it takes you a long time to get over if that trust is ever broken.

21 TO 30 POINTS: Your friends see you as painstaking and fussy. They see you as very cautious, extremely careful, a slow and steady plodder. It would really surprise them if you ever did something impulsively or on the spur of the moment, expecting you to examine everything carefully from every angle and then, usually decide against it. They think this reaction is caused partly by your careful nature..

UNDER 21 POINTS : People think you are shy, nervous, and indecisive, someone who needs looking after, who always wants someone else to make the decisions & who doesn't want to get involved with anyone or anything! They see you as a worrier who always sees problems that don't exist. Some people think you' re boring. Only those who know you well know that you aren't.

The Ten Commandments of Marriage

Commandment 1
Marriages are made in heaven. But so again, are thunder and lightning.

Commandment 2
If you want your wife to listen and pay strict attention to every word you say, talk in your sleep.

Commandment 3
Marriage is grand — anddivorce is at least 100 grand!

Commandment 4
Married life is very frustrating. In the first year of marriage, the man speaks and the woman listens. In the second year, the woman speaks and the man listens. In the third year, they both speak and the neighbors listen.

Commandment 5
When a man opens the door of his carfor his wife, you can be sure of one thing: Either the car is new or the wife is.

Commandment 6
Marriage is when a man and woman become as one.The trouble starts when they try to decide which one.

Commandment 7
Before marriage, a man will lie awakeall night thinking about something you say. After marriage, he will fall asleep before you finish.

Commandment 8
Every man wants a wife who is beautiful, understanding, economical, and a good cook. But the law allows only one wife.

Commandment 9
Marriage and love are purely a matter of chemistry. That is why the wife treats the husband like toxic waste.

Commandment 10
A man is incomplete until he is married. After that, he is finished.

Bonus Commandment Story.
A long-married couple came upon a wishing well. The wife leaned over, made a wish and threw in a penny. The husband decided to make a wish too. But he leaned over too far, fell into the well, and drowned. The wife was stunned for a moment, but then smiled; "It really works!"

YOU KNOW YOU'RE GETTING OLDER WHEN...

Does your body have arthritis? Is your hair turning gray? Do the wrinkles on your aging face feel like they've come to stay?

When your husband turns the heat up and you are still cold, remember these are just some signs that say, You're getting old.

Your grandchildren are getting older and their birthdays you forget, and you wish that you could subtract twenty years from a body that just wants to sit.

Does your body do one sit-up that stays with you all day? Half in the morning when you get up and the other half when you're in bed to stay.

The clothes you had when younger you can suddenly no longer wear. You try to put them on

anyway, but all they do is tear.

You walk to the bathroom to brush your teeth and find that they're not there. Your chest is going up and down and you have to try hard just to get some air.

You try to stick to a diet and your food intake goes down. But, when you get on the scale, it shows you've gained two pounds.

You decide to do some jogging, oh, say twice around the block. You set the alarm to time yourself and you get beat by the clock.

When you mention 'Elvis' to someone and they say to you, Who's he? You tell them a famous singer and they say, Was he on your family tree?

You decide to look for your glasses, so you can read in bed. You look all over the house for them and find they're on top of your head.

When your best friend has a birthday, no matter what time of the year. Do you remember to send them a card, or a late one that says, I missed it. Oh, dear.

Don't feel bad about growing older. We all have to do it someday. Even though old age is starting to catch up to you, don't let insulting birthday greetings get in your way.

Face Yoga : Fountain of Youth

Facial Yoga~*~*~*~*~*~
It is less painful than plastic surgery and definitely cheaper than non-surgical injections that temporarily reduce or eliminate wrinkles -- but it can make you look young.

Yes, facial yoga -- which gives you the benefits of a face-lift without the danger and expense of surgery -- is the latest craze in India as a number of people, regardless of age, are enrolling themselves for training classes.

Your face works hard. All day long it helps you see, breathe, chew, speak, laugh, cry, kiss, grin, grimace, smile, frown, sneeze and whole lot more. It gets hit by sun, rain, wind, snow, rubs, scratches, scrapes, make-up, grit and grime, as well as smiles, stares, glares and other looks from friends, family and strangers. There are about 16 muscles, a dozen bones and assorted arteries, veins and blood vessels that help your face do the things it does. Like muscles in other parts of your body, your face muscles absorb and store a lot of stress and tension. Unless you relax those muscles, they get stiff and hard and look strained. Tense muscles also constrict blood vessels, limiting the flow of blood and nutrients to your face. What's more, the tension in your face muscles can cause headaches and spread down into our neck and shoulders. A few simple exercise can help relieve facial tension and help you look and feel more relaxed.

Your face deserves a break. Below are a few simple face exercise that help relax tense muscles, release stress and improve circulation.

1. Palming. - Find a comfortable seated position, either on floor on a cushion or in a chair. Sit with your back straight. Begin with your eyes closed. Focus on your breath as it moves in and out of your nostrils. Cool air in, warm air out. - Rub your palms together very fast until they feel warm. Then cup them over your closed eyes. - Repeat. Benefits: Soothes the optic nerve, eyes and area around the eyes.

2. The Great Rub - Place the index and middle fingers of both hands in the middle of your forehead. Rub your forehead by making small circles with your fingers. - Move your fingers across your brow and to your temples, pausing there to give them a gentle massage. This is an area where we hold stress and tension that can often lead to headaches. - Then move down from your temples to the hinge of your jaw, pausing to massage your jaw muscles. - From there, move across your cheeks and up along the side of your nose to your forehead. - Repeat.
Benefits: Releases stress and tension, particularly in the temples and jaw.

3. Eye socket massage. - Take your index and middle fingers of each hand and place them on either side of your nose just below the bridge. Rub your fingers up to the bridge of your nose and along your eyebrows. - You'll feel a notch in your eye socket where the bone begins to turn downward. Rub the notch gently for a moment. Then follow the line of the socket rim down beneath the eye and back up along the side of your nose. - Repeat 3-5 times.
Benefits: Relaxes the eyes and surrounding areas, and relieves stress and tension.

4. Clenched smile. - Grit your teeth and open your lips as wide as they will go. - Feel your lips, cheeks, chin and neck stretch to their limit. Hold…and release. - Repeat.

Benefits: Increases circulation, relaxes faces muscles, relieving stress and tension.

5. Scrunches - Scrunch your face real tight. Purse your lips, draw your cheeks in toward your nose, pull your eye brows down and bring the flesh of your chin up toward your mouth. - Hold…and release. - Repeat.
Benefits: Provides a counter stretch to the "Clench" exercise. Increases circulation, relaxes faces muscles, relieving stress and tension.

6. The Lion. - Take a deep breath. - All at once, exhale forcefully, open your mouth wide, stick your tongue out as far as it will go, say "Aghhhhhhh," and open your eyes wide and look up. - Repeat 3 times.
Benefits: Relieves tension in the throat and face, stimulates the eyes and improves circulation.

7. Cheek Pinch. Pinch your cheeks, by grabbing bits of flesh and giving them a squeeze.
Benefit : Improves circulation.

Birth Number

Your birth date describes who we are, what we are good at and what our inborn abilities are. It also points to what we have to learn and the challenges we are facing. To figure out your Birth Number, add all the numbers in the birth date together, like in the example, until there is only one digit.

A Birth Number does not prevent you from being anything you want to be, it will just color your choice differently and give you a little insight.

Example : March 20, 1950 3 + 20 + 1950 = 1973 = 1 + 9 + 7 + 3 = 20 = 2 + 0 = 2 2 is the Birth Number to read for the birth date in the example.

Be Patient (Short Story)

This is a true story which happened in the States. A man came out of his home to admire his new truck. To his puzzlement, his three-year-old son was happily hammering dents into the shiny paint of the truck. The man ran to his son, knocked him away, hammered the little boy's hands into pulp as punishment. When the father calmed down, he rushed his son to the hospital.Although the doctor tried desperately to save the crushed bones, he finally had to amputate the fingers from both the boy's hands. When the boy woke up from the surgery & saw his bandaged stubs, he innocently said, " Daddy,I'm sorry about your truck." Then he asked, "but when are my fingers going to grow back?"

The father went home & committed suicide.Think about this story the next time someone steps on your feet or u wish to take revenge. Think first before u lose your patience with someone u love. Trucks can be repaired.. Broken bones & hurt feelings often can't. Too often we fail to recognize the difference between the person and the performance. We forget that forgiveness is greater than revenge.People make mistakes. We are allowed to make mistakes. But the actions we take while in a rage will haunt us forever.

Global Warming Solutions

Political Solution

Fund and expand mass transitCreate a critical mass.

In communities all over the United States, mass transit systems are being installed in a concerted effort to motivate people to not drive as much. Over the next 12 years, Denver–a metropolitan area built around the automobile–is creating a 119-mile system of commuter rail and 18 miles of bus rapid transit. And in the Midwest, Minneapolis-St. Paul unveiled its light-rail line two years ago and ridership has exceeded all expectations.

Why the sudden interest in new mass transit systems? A reduction in driving saves gas–and in this era of concern about our level of imported oil, mass transit can make a big difference.

When a gallon of gas is used for fuel, the combustion process releases 19.6 pounds of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. So every gallon of gas we don’t use keeps about 20 pounds of CO2 from being added to our global warming problems.

In cities with older transportation infrastructure such as Chicago, ELPC and others are advocating for significant capital investment dedicated to refurbishing mass transit systems that have suffered from years of chronic underfunding.

The results of that underfunding are clear:

Deferred maintenance that has slowed train service on many portions of Chicago’s rapid-transit lines to a crawl Decrepit stations built almost a century ago that turn off potential new riders Dirty, odor-filled equipment that makes the rider experience unpleasant There’s no question that in cities like Chicago, people want to ride mass transit. Rail ridership–despite “slow zones” growing seemingly exponentially–grew 5% in 2006. Imagine what the growth would be–and what the global warming pollution reduction would be–if the trains were fast, the stations clean, and equipment attractive.

Thoughts

Genius ain't anything more than elegant common sense.

When u feel down because you didn't get what u want, just sit tight and be happy, because God has thought of something better to give you.

Life without a friend is death without a witness.

The language of friendship is not words nbut meanings.

A friend is someone who reacches your hand and touches your heart.

You never really know someone until you have been their friend.

Licensing the Song

In the case of a "real song", like something you would hear on a top-40 radio play-list, there are several different parties involved with the song: The label owns the actual sound recording -- the performance of the song as recorded in the label's studio.

The publisher works on behalf of the song's composer (the person who arranged the music) and songwriter (the person who wrote the lyrics).

The composer and songwriter probably own the actual copyrights for the song, and the publisher represents them in all business dealings.

If you want to use a song for any reason, you have to somehow obtain rights at least from the publisher, and possibly from the label as well (if you are planning to use a specific performance).

Here are just a few examples of when you need to obtain rights:

You own a radio station and you want to play a song on your station.

You own a restaurant and you want to play songs as background music.

You are making a commercial and you want to use a song in the commercial.

You are making a toy and you want it to play a song when a child pushes a button.

You are making a video production and you want a song as background music. Perhaps half a billion dollars trade hands every year through licensing fees

What Makes us Fall in Love?

We all have a template for the ideal partner buried somewhere in our subconscious. It is this love map that decides which person in that crowded room catches our eye. But how is this template formed?

Appearance
Many researchers have speculated that we tend to go for members of the opposite sex who remind us of our parents. Some have even found that we tend to be attracted to those who remind us of ourselves. In fact, cognitive psychologist David Perrett, at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, did an experiment in which he morphed a digitized photo of the subject's own face into a face of the opposite sex. Then, he had the subject select from a series of photos which one he or she found most attractive. According to Dr. Perrett, his subjects always preferred the morphed version of their own face (and they didn't recognize it as their own).
PersonalityLike appearance, we tend to form preferences for those who remind us of our parents (or others close to us through childhood) because of their personality, sense of humor, likes and dislikes, etc.

Pheromones

The debated topic of human pheromones still carries some weight in the field of love research. The word "pheromone" comes from the Greek words pherein and hormone, meaning "excitement carrier".

In the animal world, pheromones are individual scent "prints" found in urine or sweat that dictate sexual behavior and attract the opposite sex. They help animals identify each other and choose a mate with an immune system different enough from their own to ensure healthy offspring. They have a special organ in their noses called the vomeronasal organ (VNO) that detects this odorless chemical.

The existence of human pheromones was discovered in 1986 by scientists at the Chemical Senses Center in Philadelphia and its counterpart in France. They found these chemicals in human sweat. A human VNO has also been found in some, but not all, people. Even if the VNO isn't present in all of us -- and may not be working in those who do have it -- there is still evidence that smell is an important aspect of love (note the booming perfume industry). An experiment was conducted where a group of females smelled the unwashed tee shirts of a group of sweaty males, and each had to select the one to whom she was most "attracted." Just like in the animal world, the majority of the females chose a shirt from the male whose immune system was the most different from their own.

10 Tips for Saving Money in College

College can be an expensive endeavor, even with scholarships and other kinds of financial aid. It's difficult enough balancing a class schedule -- the thought of balancing a check book, on the other hand, can strike fear into the hearts of even the most studious mathematicians. Everything from textbooks, food, transportation, supplies and entertainment -- these will all cost you money. There's no getting around it. However, there are easy ways to save. Here are several ways to avoid the constant panic of going broke:

Buy Textbooks From Used Bookstores New textbooks from university bookstores can be very expensive. Brand new editions of chemistry books, for instance, can cost as much as $300, and that's not including any lab material. However, you can cut costs on reading materials and not starve. Look around for used bookstores. Most college campuses should have several -- the prices are heavily discounted, and book conditions are usually good. If you have enough time before classes start, check out the Internet for your books. Even with shipping charges, prices can turn out to be cheaper from online bookstores. And don't forget -- some of your friends might have taken a course in the past. Ask around and see if you can borrow from someone.
Seek Alternative TransportationInstead of driving to class and spending money on gas, parking passes and possible tickets, look into a local bus or subway system. If the system is run by your university, you'll probably be able to ride for free with a student ID. If a transportation system doesn't exist (or the existing one isn't safe or reliable), try to work out class schedules with friends and carpool. If you're close enough, walk or bike to class and get some much-needed exercise.

Choose The Right Meal PlanCampus meal plans vary depending on the university -- food quality, how often you eat, how much you eat, and location can all factor in. A meal plan can be a good deal, however, so do a little research and see if it's worth it. Grab a brochure; ask meal plan veterans; anything to get a little taste. Some universities offer off-campus meal plans, too. These usually involve deals with food chains, so make sure the plan is appealing to you. If you decide to skip out on a meal plan, it's possible to eat enough and eat healthy on your own budget. Cut out coupons, buy in bulk and sign up for a shopper's discount card. Be creative and plan dinners with roommates and friends instead of going to more expensive restaurants.

Set Up A Student Checking AccountBanks usually cater to college students by offering free checking and savings accounts, allowing you to avoid fees on withdrawals, fund transfers or the minimum amount allowed in the account. Make sure online banking is an option, as this makes it easier to follow your activity. Keep track of your account -- overdrafting will only cost you more in fees. So, do what it takes to stay out of the red as much as possible.
ATMs attract a lot of attention on campus, but it's possible to avoid unnecessary fees with a free checking and savings account.

Get OrganizedIt might seem like a hassle, but saving receipts of everything you purchase -- from small items such as a candy bar or a CD, to big-ticket items like a new computer -- is a great way to monitor your spending habits. Try it out for a month. When your thirty days are up, add up all of your expenses and see where your money went. You'd be surprised at how easy it is to cut back on unnecessary spending.

Be Creative With Your Leisure TimeEveryone needs to unwind after studying, and college campuses typically offer all sorts of opportunities -- movie theaters, bars, cafes, arts centers, parks, downtown shopping centers, et cetera. Ask if any of these places offer student discounts. You can also think of alternative ways to have a good time. If you make the right choices and use a bit of creativity, you can have fun and save money at the same time. Plan a picnic in the park; make dinner for a date instead of going to a fancy restaurant; go for a bike ride around town; play Frisbee golf on campus. Any of these activities cost a fraction of the typical college experience and can be more fun.

Find A JobIf you can fit it into your busy class schedule, a part-time job is a great way to bring in some extra income and give you some more flexibility with your spending. Waiting tables or delivering food can bring in great tips, and college-town restaurants are almost always looking for new help. A great way to earn some money and get some studying done is to work at your university's library. It's not a very demanding job and is usually quiet, so you can read for class and get paid at the same time.

Choose a cell phone plan thatworks for you, and try to cut backon costly text messages.
Get The Right Cell Phone PlanIt's difficult to get by without a cell phone today, but with a little research you can find an affordable plan that fits your needs. If they're up for it, join a family cell phone plan with your parents. It's usually much cheaper for everyone involved than having separate plans. If you're on your own, check out websites that offer side-by-side comparison charts of different cell phone plans. You should also avoid text messaging. Before you know it, you could rack up hundreds of dollars worth of texts when you could have communicated the same information for much less. Remember, phone companies charge both the sender and receiver of text messages, so let you friends know if you don't want them texting you five times every class. Send out e-mails or use free networking Web sites like Myspace or Facebook Smart .

Apartment LivingIf you're not living in the dorms, split the rent with a few roommates. When thinking about appliances, see if your apartment complex provides a refrigerator, a washer and dryer, a microwave, and other handy accessories. If your parents or friends have any old appliances lying around, ask them if they'd be willing to part with them. Electricity, water and heating bills can be costly, so do your best to conserve -- turn off lights when you're not in the room, use as little water as possible by taking fast showers and use the A/C and heat sparingly.

Look Out For ScholarshipsIf you're applying for college right now or thinking about transferring to another school, it doesn't hurt to do some research on various types of financial aid provided by the school. Aside from the obvious chunk of cash you'll save in the long run, several scholarships offer all sorts of perks and benefits -- semester stipends, group trips, special access to useful resources, et cetera. If you're already enrolled but haven't received any aid, keep trying! If your grades are good and you show you mean business, many scholarship programs give you the opportunity to apply each semester.

Paper n Global Warming

15 Facts About the Paper Industry, Global Warming and the Environment

And What You Can Do About It

“Think of the hundreds of times a day we touch paper — newspapers, cereal boxes, toilet paper, water bottle labels, parking tickets, streams of catalogs and junk mail, money, tissues, books, shopping bags, receipts, napkins, printer and copier paper at home and work, magazines, to-go food packaging. This list could fill a paperback.”
Put another way, the 700-pound gorilla in the room is made of paper. The average American consumes more than 700 pounds of paper a year, anyway — that’s the world’s highest per capita figure.
Here are 15 more facts about the environmental impact of the paper industry, courtesy — as is the quote above — of The State of the Paper Industry, a report published (on-line) today by the Environmental Paper Network. That is a coalition of environmental groups that aims to minimize paper consumption, maximize recycled content, source paper fiber responsibly and employ cleaner paper production practices.

1. Forests store 50% of the world’s terrestrial carbon. (In other words, they are awfully important “carbon sinks” that hold onto pollution that would otherwise lead to global warming.)
2. Half the world’s forests have already been cleared or burned, and 80% of what’s left has been seriously degraded.
3. 42% of the industrial wood harvest is used to make paper.
4. The paper industry is the 4th largest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions among United States manufacturing industries, and contributes 9% of the manufacturing sector’s carbon emissions.
5. Paper accounts for 25% of landfill waste (and one third of municipal landfill waste).
6. Municipal landfills account for one third of human-related methane emissions (and methane is 23-times more potent a greenhouse gas than is carbon dioxide).
7. If the United States cut office paper use by just 10% it would prevent the emission of 1.6 million tons of greenhouse gases — the equivalent of taking 280,000 cars off the road.
8. Compared to using virgin wood, paper made with 100% recycled content uses 44% less energy, produces 38% less greenhouse gas emissions, 41% less particulate emissions, 50% less wastewater, 49% less solid waste and — of course — 100% less wood.
9. In 2003, only 48.3% of office paper was recovered for recycling.
10. Recovered paper accounts for 37% of the U.S. pulp supply.
11. Printing and writing papers use the least amount of recycled content — just 6%. Tissues use the most, at 45%, and newsprint is not far behind, at 32%.
12. Demand for recycled paper will exceed supply by 1.5 million tons of recycled pulp per year within 10 years.
13. While the paper industry invests in new recycled newsprint and paper packaging plants in the developing world, almost none of the new printing and writing paper mills use recycled content.
14. China, India and the rest of Asia are the fastest growing per-capita users of paper, but they still rank far behind Eastern Europe and Latin America (about 100 pounds per person per year), Australia (about 300 pounds per person per year) and Western Europe (more than 400 pounds per person per year).
15. The Forest Stewardship Council’s certification of sustainable forestry practices is growing, with 50% of the paper product market share and 226 million acres accounted for. Advocates say the demand for recycled paper and sustainably harvested pulp from consumers, advertisers, magazine makers and other users of paper will yield the fastest reforms of the industry.

McDonald's Game

Ever dream of running your own McDonald’s? I sure as damn well haven’t, but still I quite enjoyed this game, which puts you in charge of the entire Maccas corporation.
You have to raise the cows, grow the feed, kill the cows (thankfully done offscreen), hire employees, and do PR and advertising.
The game is actually made by critics of the Golden Arches, so it’s all done with a less than subtle activist twist. You can bribe politicians, bulldoze rainforest villages, inject cows with hormones, rebuke staff, and use underhanded advertising methods to bring people into your stores.
Trouble is, while the message of “McDonald’s does evil stuff” gets through, I found myself really getting into it, laughing evilly as cthe ash register chinged up sale after sale of my delicious, but evil, burgers.
I now also feel a bit sorry for the poor CEO of the real McDonald’s, who’s just trying to keep from getting fired by his board, just like the fictional me was in the game.

Ford Mustang

In celebration of the 40th anniversary of the original, Ford and Shelby have decided to introduce the "King of the Road" model (hence the initials KR), with 540 horsepower (403kW) on tap and 692Nm of torque, from what is effectively the supercharged 5.4-litre quad-cam 32v V8 from the Ford GT supercar. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a Tremec six-speed manual transmission, with a Ford Racing short-throw shifter. Capped with a white knob, the new shifter's lever is 25 per cent shorter than that of the GT500, giving sharper shifting.
The Shelby part of the name, of course, comes from racing and sports car building legend Carroll Shelby, the 1959 Le Mans-winning Texan who only took up making hairy-chested street cars after doctors said his heart couldn't take much more of him competing behind the wheel.
Shelby is renowned for creating Cobras by dropping Ford V8s into tiny British AC Ace sports cars, and taking over Ford's GT Le Mans programme in the mid-'60s, leading it to four consecutive Le Mans victories, starting with the era-changing Bruce McLaren/Chris Amon win in 1966.
But the direct connection with the GT500KR model comes from Shelby's refettled high-performance Mustangs of the late '60s, called the GT350 and GT500, which are regarded now as some of quickest and most desirable historic Mustangs of all.
The first KR Shelby Cobra, the GT500KR, was introduced in 1968 and based on that year's GT500, with Ford noting the marketing value of adding Cobra to the car's name. The Cobra name at that time referred to the new 428cu in (7-litre) Cobra Jet V8 stuffed under the '68 KR's bonnet.
Ford conservatively rated the 428 CJ at 335bhp (250kW), but in reality it made more than 400bhp (300kW ) and 600Nm of torque. That first KR model was also equipped with a modified suspension and was offered both in fastback and convertible models. Just 1570 GT500KRs were sold, with 1053 fastbacks and 517 convertibles finding owners.
The new car will be even rarer and produced as a limited edition of just 1000 units. The 2008 Shelby GT500KR coupe will come with a unique carbon-composite bonnet with intake venturi and very 1960s stainless steel twist-down hood pins. There will be a lower front air dam than on the standard (only 500hp/ 403kW) GT500, with chrome- trimmed brake ducts and enlarged 14-inch Brembo front brakes.
The Shelby GT500KR features 40th anniversary exterior badging, special striping and a distinctive interior with Carroll Shelby-signature embroidered seats and a 40th anniversary numbered dash plaque.
The Ford Shelby GT500KR's supercharged 5.4-litre, 32-valve V8 is the result of Ford's experience in developing its modular V8 and V10 engine series. The engine is force-fed air through a Roots-type supercharger providing nine pounds per square inch of boost. It borrows the four-valve cylinder heads, piston rings and bearings, from the Ford GT engine.
Ford Racing and Team Shelby worked together to develop the KR's suspension tuning, which still, sadly, eschews independent rear underpinnings. This is something Ford is going to think long and hard about as arch-rivals Dodge and Chevrolet get ready to bring their own respective high-performance Challenger and Camaro models into production - both sporting the IRS that the Mustang lacks.
But for the time being, Chrysler and GM will be in no doubt who has the King of the Road bragging rights.
