The body naturally creates extra bones to provide stability to their aging joints. It acts to determine other types of diseases such as spondylosis, plantar fasciitis, spondylosis and spinal stenosis. Malnutrition, unhealthy lifestyle, accidents and sport injuries are some of the factors that lead to bone spur.
Bone spur causes
Bone spur is mainly found in people suffering from osteoarthritis. Body of an osteoarthritis patient always attempts to cover up the loss done by osteoarthritis by breaking down the cartilage in bone joints. To cover up this loss, the body creates new bones along the affected bones. In the elderly, the reason for bone spur is that their body creates extra bone to provide stability to their aging joints. Home Remedies for BRITTLE NAILS !!
BRITTLE NAILS Are your fingernails thin and fragile? Do they crack, split, or break easily? Does it seem to take forever for your fingernails to grow? If so, you have brittle nails.
Lots of things can cause dray, brittle nails. For one, brittle nails are a natural part of the aging process, so people over 35 are more likely to have brittle nails. However, exposure to certain things in every day life can cause brittle nails in people of all ages. Using household cleaners without gloves can cause damage to your skin and hands. And the heater used to keep your house, school, and place of business warm in the winter can also cause dry, bitter nails.
But the major cause of brittle nails seems to be exposure to water. Whether you wash dishes every day, or go swimming several times a week, frequent exposure to water can cause your nails to become weak, dry, and brittle.
Home remedies for brittle nails.
Treat Brittle Nails with Vegetable Oil
Vegetable oil can help replace the moisture lost by frequent exposure to water. Just use a cotton swab to brush vegetable oil on each fingernail, both on top and on the underside. Then, massage the oil into your nails. Repeat this treatment three or four times every day. The oil will add much-need moisture to your brittle nails, and the massage will improve blood circulation in that area.
Moisturize Hands Frequently
If you have brittle nails, moisturizing frequently will help. You can find hand lotions and creams designed to help strengthen nails. Moisturize after you wash your hands, get out of the pool, wash the dishes, or any time your hands have been exposed to water.
Treat Brittle Nails from the Inside
The foods you eat can have some effect on the condition of your fingernails. If you have brittle nails, think of adding foods that contain biotin, a B vitamin. Biotin, which is a B vitamin, can help your nails grow thicker and strong. Some foods that contain biotin are peanuts, lentils, egg yolks, sardines, mushrooms, bananas, liver, and cauliflower. You could also consider taking biotin supplements to strengthen brittle nails.
It could take a few months for the biotin to work, so don’t expect instant results. Give the treatment time to improve the condition of your brittle nails.
Keep Brittle Nails Short
Brittle nails that are longer are more likely to break, crack, and split. So, until your nails have had a chance to get thicker and stronger, it’s best to keep them trimmed short.
Brittle nails aren’t just frustrating. When they split or crack, they can also be painful. Try these treatments, and your nails will go from thin and brittle to thick and healthy.

Home Remedies to IMPROVE YOUR MEMORY
If you are having problems remembering things, there are some simple things you can do to improve your memory. The first thing you will want to master is repetition. When you repeat things many times over, it increasing the chances that your brain will store it into your long term memory.
Repetition is directly connected to your ability to memorize important information. The next thing you will want to use is association. If you need to remember something that is important, associate it with an image which is very important to you.
By making this connection, your brain is much more likely to retain the information. You should also strive to learn at least one new fact each day. It should be something you're interested in. Your brain is much more likely to retain information that interests you. It will discard information that you find to be boring. A large percentage of our brains are composed of fatty substances. Because of this, the foods we consume can have an effect on the function of our brains. Because of this, you will want to make sure you only eat foods which are healthy to your brain. Eating good foods for your brain is just as important as eating the proper foods for the rest of your body.
It is also important to exercise your mind. Like your muscles, a brain which is exercised will be mentally fit. If you don't exercise your brain, you will become mentally weak. Antioxidants can enhance your immune system and protect your neurons. This is very important as you age, as memory problems have been connected to the aging process. Blackberries, raspberries, and raisins are excellent for keeping your brain healthy as you get older. These foods are full of antioxidants. Another product you will want to eat on a consistent basis is almonds. Eating about eight almonds a day can do a lot to improve your memory.
Milk and honey have been shown to help improve your memory. While there are many books you can buy which will present a number of techniques you can use to improve your memory, you don't want to forget about the foods you eat. Many people take this for granted. We always hear about the foods which are good to eat for those who want to lose weight and stay in great shape. Unfortunately, you don't hear a lot about the importance of brain food. What good is being physically fit if you are not mentally fit as well?
When you were young, your parents probably told you to eat lots of fruits and vegetables, and there is a reason for this. Studies have consistently shown that eating the right foods can help you improve your memory. We live in a society where eating bad foods is the norm for many people. It is unfortunate that more fast food restaurants don't add either fruits or vegetables to their menu. However, it is up to you to take responsibility for the health of both your brain and your body. Nobody has a more vested interest in your health than you. We live in a world of information.
On a daily basis, the typical individual can expect to receive a ton of information. Much of this information is worthless, and your brain will discard it. However, there is a lot of information which is presented to you that has to be memorized. Because of this, your brain must know what information should be retained and what should be discarded. Having a knowledge of memory improvement techniques will allow you to store important information in your long term memory while discarding data which is not important. By eating the right foods will make this process easier. There are two primary reasons why people have memory problem.
The first reason is a result of them not knowing how to control the information that they receive. The second reason is not caring for their mind and body in a way that makes it easier for them to process information. Once you master these two things, there is little that will be able to stop you from enjoying a long, health life were you continue to learn new things each day.

Liver..
LIVER CARE The liver is the largest single gland in the body. It is located on the right side of the abdomen under the lower ribs and just under the diaphragm which divides the chest from the abdomen. Liver performs a number of important functions in the body. When the liver is healthy it works very smoothly. But the liver can be affected by a number of serious disorders, such as virus infections, parasites, and disturbances of the circulation, stone formation in the bile ducts, injuries due to poisonous substances, and various kinds of tumors.
Most of the foods we eat are stored in the liver, after having been digested and absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. The liver has another very important function, that of detoxifying or destroying many harmful poisons and even certain medicines that are taken into the body for other purposes. When the liver is sick these functions are impaired and soon the whole body suffers. Not only does the liver store food materials, it also produces bile, a golden-yellowish liquid that is needed for the absorption of fat from the intestine. Another important substance produced in the liver is cholesterol, part of which passes into the bile. It may even form stones in the bile ducts and gall bladder under certain conditions.
Another important component is prothrombin, which is needed for the clotting of the blood. Urea, an important component of the urine, is also produced in the liver. The production of all these substances may be changed under certain disease conditions.
Jaundice is a disease marked by a yellow discoloration in the skin or in the whites of the eye. This is due to excessive amount of bile in the blood stream. Hepatitis is an acute inflammation of the liver caused by some infectious or toxic agent. The skin may be discolored and the whites of the eyes turn yellow. Various substances and organisms may be responsible for hepatitis, including germs, viruses, and toxic agents.
Another important disease of the liver is the cirrhosis of the liver. It is mostly associated with alcoholism. Poor nutrition may be responsible for this condition also. In some cases chronic poisoning with industrial fluids, such as carbon tetrachloride, may also play a part. In the early stages of the disease there may be frequent attacks of gas and indigestion, with occassional nausea and vomiting and with abdominal pain and weight loss.
Cancer may occur in almost any organ of the body. When it begins in the stomach or large bowel, the liver may soon be involved mainly because the blood flows toward the liver from all the digestive organs including the pancreas and gall bladder. This is known as metastatic carcinoma.
HOME REMEDIES FOR LIVER CARE

AVOIDING ALLERGIES: From Food or Feathers !!
Have you ever experienced itching and rashes after eating a lobster, a crab, or shrimps? Chances are you have an allergy. An allergy is an immune system response. The signs and symptoms of allergy are reactions of the immune system to substances or chemicals that are normally harmless. Just a little exposure to an allergen is enough to alert the immune system of the substance. Immediately, the immune system would signal for the release of histamine and other chemicals. The release of these chemicals triggers swelling, itching, mucus production, hives, rashes, and muscle spasms. The extent of the reaction is different from person to person. For some people, an allergic reaction could be life threatening and demand immediate medical attention. Life threatening reactions are called anaphylaxis. People with eczema and asthma usually have allergies connected with the disorders.
Allergens could be anything depending on a person's response. Some people are even allergic to hot or cold temperatures, sunlight, or other physical stimuli. Allergic reactions could also be brought about by the use of certain cosmetics, jewelry, and insect bites. The most common allergens include: pollen from trees, grass, and weeds, mold, proteins found in the skin, saliva, and urine of domesticated animals, and dust mites.
In order to prevent activating your allergy to pollen, take a bath or shower before bedtime to make sure to get rid of pollen on your hair and skin. During dry, windy days, avoid going outside and close windows and doors. You might need to have air conditioner at home and in your car. If you want to fight molds, remove house plants and clean shower curtains often, including bathroom windows, wet walls, areas with dry rot, and indoor trash cans. To effectively kill a mold, you have to use a mixture of water and chlorine bleach. To prevent mold, increase the movement of air inside the house using fans or by opening doors and windows. You may also decide to use mold-proof paint on your bathroom and use a humidifier to reduce humidity in the house.
If you have severe allergy related to your pets, perhaps it would be best not to have a pet in the first place. However, you could also do well by giving your pet a daily bath and by using air filter. You could also consult your friendly veterinarian about reducing pet dander in the house.
You can never get rid of dust and dust mites, but you could reduce them. To do so, get rid of feather pillows, drapes, upholstered furniture, non-washable comforters, and soft toys. Use linoleum or wood instead of a carpet, although polished floors are the best option for you. Mop the floor often with damp mop and clean surfaces with damp cloth. Regular vacuuming is needed, especially on soft furniture, curtains, and floors. You may also need to install an air cleaner. Try not to use mattress pads, but cover mattress and pillows with plastic covers instead. Lowering the humidity of the house also helps fight off dust.

Healthy Skin Tips
The outer layer of your skin renews itself every 2-4 weeks, but the dermis layer is pretty permanent. The things you do to your skin in your teens and 20s can affect your skin's look almost immediately. It is critical that you take good care of your skin, and your body, if you want to look and feel good.
Tanning and Sun
Hopefully every person alive now knows the dangers of the sun and tanning. It can cause skin cancer - and not just when you are 60 or 70. I know people in their teens who have died of skin cancer. If you don't get skin cancer, you are also destroying your dermis layer. The dermis layer gives your skin its elasticity and firmness. So if you desroy your dermis, your skin looks wrinkled and saggy - even by age 21. Eat
Healthy Foods
You are what you eat, from your head down to your feet! If you eat healthy foods with nutrients, your skin reacts positively and glows. If you eat tons of junk food and sugar, your skin gets bloaty, dull and listless. It can have a direct impact on how you look.
Drink Lots of Water
You may think that drinking lots of water makes you look pudgy. But actually your body only holds onto water when it thinks there is a DROUGHT. That means if you drink only a little water, your body will cling onto it with a passion and make you look water-logged. If you drink lots of water, it lets your blood do its job flushing the toxins from your system, and your body lets the water go out of your system because it knows more is coming soon. The more water you drink, the more healthy you look and feel.
Get Lots of Sleep
You know how people who are not sleeping well have dark rings under their eyes? Your skin shows very clearly when you are not getting enough sleep. Sleep lets your body renew and refresh. Avoid Smoking
One of the best known destroyers of skin (besides the sun) is smoking. Smoking causes ALL sorts of health issues, and destruction of your skin is just one of them.

Home Remedies for SWEATY PALMS
SWEATY PALMS If your palms sweat more than a stool pigeon under police interrogation, you have a condition that doctors know as hyperhidrosis- -excess sweating of your palms. In nonmedical language, you might call it just plain embarrassing. But here's how to get quick, hands-on relief.
"Shock" yourself dry. "The best treatment out there is a low-level electrical current called iontophoresis, " according to Norman Levine, M.D., chief of dermatology at the University of Arizona College of Medicine Health Sciences Center in Tucson. Dr. Levine recommends a device called the Drionic that administers the low-level current.
How it works: The Drionic uses a 9-volt battery--not enough to harm you but enough to plug up over-active sweat ducts and keep them plugged for about six weeks. To remedy a sweaty palm condition, simply place your palm on top of the device for a few minutes. Further information about the Drionic is available from General Medical Company, 1935 Armacost Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90025.
Treat your palms as underarms.
For a mild case of hyperhidrosis, the solution may already be in your medicine chest. "Some people find relief by rubbing underarm antiperspirant on their palms," says Stephen M. Purcell, D.O., chairman of the Department of Dermatology at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and an assistant clinical professor at Hahnemann University School of Medicine in Philadelphia. But check the label: The kind of antiperspirant that works on clammy hands should contain aluminum chlorohydrate, the active drying ingredient.
Manage your stress.
"One effective way of remedying hyperhidrosis is through stress management," says Dr. Levine. "Learn biofeedback or practice some other stress control treatment, since this condition is at least partially brought on by stress or nervousness. "
Boil five tea bags in a quart of water for 10 minutes. When the solution cools, soak your hands for 20 to 30 minutes nightly. Tea contains tannic acid, which is also found in commercial products such as Ivy Dry, Zilactol and Zilactin. Tea bags can also be held in the palm for 10-15 minutes daily to reduce perspiring palms.
One way to reduce sweaty palms is to reduce your intake of foods rich in iodine. Vegetables to avoid include broccoli, asparagus and white onion. Meats to avoid include beef, liver and turkey.
Drinking sage tea provide an additional home remedy for sweaty palms. Zinc has also shown promise in lessening both perspiration as well as body odor. The best advice with zinc is to avoid long term use as it may interfere with copper absorption.
The "Obvious" Solution Is Not the Best
Why not dry those clammy hands with baby powder? After all, it seems like the cheapest dry-all solution.
"Baby powder might be the first thing people turn to. But rubbing powder on your palms is one of the worst things you can do, unless you have a very mild case," says Stephen M. Purcell, D.O., chairman of the Department of Dermatology at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and an assistant clinical professor at Hahnemann University School of Medicine in Philadelphia. "As the powder absorbs the perspiration, it will cake up, leaving you with sweaty, caked-up hands instead of just sweaty hands."

In Vitro Fertilisation (Test Tube Baby)--Procedure step by step
IVF – STEP BY STFP(Test Tube Baby)
1. Before starting
Screening tests will be checked and sometimes repeated. These are:
Wife
- Complete Hemogram, Blood Sugar, Urea, SGPT
- Hepatitis B [ HBsAg ]
- HIV
Husband
- Sperm test within 6 months
- Hepatitis B
- HIV
A semen sample is generally collected and stored [ cryopreserved ]. This can be used at the time of the procedure if the sample on that day is not good or if the husband is not present or is unable to give a fresh sample.
The wife is generally put on a low dose oral contraceptive pill from the 3rd / 4th / 5th day of the period. This helps in programming the treatment cycle and avoids unnecessary delays. The wife is also given iron and vitamin tablets and the husband is given a course of antibiotics.
2. Counseling
Counseling Couples with infertility problems have faced many frustrations and disappointments so they are under stress. IVF itself can be physically and emotionally taxing and the uncertainty while waiting for result can be very stressful. Consent forms must be signed before starting treatment.
3. Ovarian Stimulation :
Drugs are used to stimulate the ovaries to produce several eggs instead of the usual one to increase the chances of pregnancy. Many variations are used and yours may be different from others. The doctor will advise regarding the required drugs and its dosage.
In general there are 3 types of protocols [ Long, short and antagonist ] and 2 types of drugs [ recombinant and urinary ]. The cost of the treatment and to some extent the success rate depends on the drugs used. The doctor will discuss this before selecting and prescribing the stimulation protocol.
a. LONG PROTOCOL :
Women receiving the Long Protocol start injections on the 21st day of the previous cycle [ i.e. when about 4 – 5 oral pills are left ]. She is asked to come to MIVFG on the 2nd or 3rd day of her next period for starting the actual overiation stimulation. Sonography and sometimes a blood test is done and then the actual stimulation is started.
b. SHORT / ANTAGONIST PROTOCOL :
For women on the Short or antagonist protocol, all the injections are started on the second day of period.
Drug Treatment :
Drugs This start from the 2nd day of the cycle and lasts for about 9-12 days daily till the eggs become mature as determined by ultrasound examination and if necessary, a blood test. To minimize disruption, many women prefer their husbands / another relative / family doctor to give their injections at home or even do it themselves. It is common to have some discomfort and mild side effect while taking the drugs. The main serious side effect is over response, which is severe in about 1 in 100 stimulated cycles.
4. Ultrasound Examination
Ultrasound Examination A vaginal ultrasound examination is done after 4 days of drugs to measure the response of the ovaries. This shows the number and size of the follicles growing in the ovaries, which is a guide to how many eggs to expect and when they will be mature. This is used to decide whether the drug dosage needs any alteration and to plan the day of egg collection.
Generally about 3 scans will be carried out during the stimulation protocol. The husband is not needed during these monitoring visits.
Sometimes if the response is very poor and only one or two eggs seem likely, the chances of pregnancy may be low and doctor may suggest canceling the cycle.
5. hCG Injection
hCG injection is given to trigger the final maturing of the eggs ready for collection. Eggs collection is planned, 34-36 hours after hCG injection. The day of egg collection will usually be decided when patient has the scan and will depend on the size and number of follicles. On the day hCG is planned, the time for injection that night together with details for hospital admission for the egg collection will be informed to by the doctor. The embryologist will inform about the time for sperm collection by the husband.
6. Egg Collection
Egg identification Patient will be asked to get admitted early in the morning on the day of egg collection.
She should have nothing to eat or drink from midnight the night before the procedure.
The eggs are collected through the vagina under ultrasound control, using a fine needle, which is passed through the vagina into the ovary. Fluid from the follicles is sucked through the needle into a test tube and is passed immediately to the laboratory next door where the scientists check for eggs under the microscope. The eggs are then placed in culture fluid in special dishes in the incubator at body temperature. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia, but can be carried out under sedation if patient prefers. The procedure takes about 15-30 minutes. Patient will be able to go home about 2 - 3 hours after the procedure and arrangements will be made for her ET time two or three days later. It is common to have some vaginal bleeding after egg collection from where the needle passes through the vaginal wall. This usually settles in one to two days and does not affect your chances of pregnancy. Some discomfort from the swelling of the ovaries is common and any painkiller can be safely used. Although this is a very minor surgery, it is not without risk.
7. Sperm Collection
A fresh sperm sample is collected on the day of egg collection. This can be done just before or just after egg collection. In case, the husband requires the presence of his wife for semen collection, he should inform this to the embryologist, so that arrangements can be made likewise. The sperm sample is best produced by masturbation and there is a room for this purpose. Lubricants should NOT be used as they can effect fertilization. It is difficult for some men to produce a sperm sample on request. If he is worried about this aspect he should discuss it with the doctor before starting treatment, so that arrangements can be made to freeze some semen, which can be used if necessary. If he lives close to the hospital, it may be possible for him to produce the sperm sample at home. Sexual activity may continue during the treatment cycle. Unless advised otherwise, it is better not to ejaculate for 2 days before the egg collection. However, more than 4 or 5 days without ejaculation may reduce sperm quality.
8.
After Egg Collection

Sperm immobilisation
Sperm catching
Egg penetration
Sperm injection
Following egg collection, the eggs will be fertilized either by standardIVF or by ICSI .

Fertilisationcheck
In about 15% of cycle no eggs fertilize. If this happens, you will be advised on the day after egg collection.
9.Embryo Transfer(ET)

Embryos ET is done two or three days after egg collection. It is simple procedures needing no medication. The women's legs are rested in stirrups and the embryo passed through the cervix into the uterus through a very fine soft plastic tube. It takes only a few minutes and is usually only as uncomfortable as having a pap smear. There is no need to rest afterwards; you may go straight home or back to work and all normal activity including sexual intercourse is permitted.

Embryo GradingO.K.
However, heavy work like lifting weights, climbing staircase etc. should be avoided. Our counselor will help you in making the period after ET as stress free as possible. If there are more than three good quality embryos, it may be possible to freeze them for later transfer. This will be discussed with you before ET. Separate consent form must be signed for embryo freezing. The wife will be asked to take some injections and / or tablets after embryo transfer to support the luteal phase.
10. Pregnancy Test
You will be given a date for a pregnancy test about 14 or 15 days after embryo transfer. It is important that you get the test done even if you have a period, as there is a small chance of pregnancy even then. If it is positive we will arrange an ultrasound examination 7 – 10 days later. If the test is negative, further treatment will depend on whether you have frozen embryos stored or not.
INTRACYTOPLASMIC SPERM INJECTION (ICSI)
Micro manipulator ICSI is a process in which the embryologist collects a single sperm using a highly specialized microscope and specially developed fine glass needles and injects it directly into the center of an egg. This process is repeated for each of the mature eggs that have been collected.
ICSI is mainly used for couples with extremely poor sperm count OR where there has been poor fertilization in previous IVF cycle OR where there is reason to believe that ICSI will be the only way to achieve fertilization. It is also used in patients with Azoospermia, where sperm are obtained by testicular biopsy or epididymal aspiration.
II. FROZEN EMBRYO TRANSFER CYCLE
Embryo freezingTreatment protocol for transfer of frozen embryos is very simple. The wife is put on tablets [ estradiol valerate ] from the 2 nd day of her periods for proper development of the lining of the uterus. She will have to come for sonography once or twice to monitor the response. When the lining has developed properly, progesterone tablets are added and embryo transfer is carries out 2 or 3 days later. Husband is not required during the entire treatment cycle

Home Remedies for UNDERWEIGHT
UNDERWEIGHT
Being thin or underweight like being overweight, is a relative term, being based on the ideal weight for a given height built, and sex. A person can be regarded as moderately underweight if he or she weighs ten per cent below the ideal body weight and markedly so if the weight is twenty per cent below the ideal.
Underweight symptoms
Fatigue feeling
They often feel easily fatigued, have poor physical stamina and low resistance to infection.
Underweight causes
Thinness due to an inadequate caloric intake
Thinness due to an inadequate caloric intake is a serious condition, especially in young people. Diseases like tuberculosis, respiratory disorders, pneumonia, circulatory diseases like heart disorders, cerebral haemorrhage, nephritis, typhoid fever, and cancer are quite common among them.
Inadequate nutrition or bad eating habits
Thinness may be due to inadequate nutrition or excessive bodily activity, or both. Emotional factors or bad eating habits such as skipping meals, small meals, habitual fasting, and inadequate exercise can also cause it
Inadequate digestion, metabolic disturbances and disorders
Other factors include inadequate digestion and absorption of food due to a wrong dietary pattern for a particular metabolism, metabolic disturbances such as an overactive thyroid, and hereditary tendencies. Disorders such as chronic dyspepsia, chronic diarrhoea, presence of intestinal worms, liver disorders, diabetes mellitus, insomnia, constipation, and sexual disorders can also lead to thinness.
Home Remedies for Underweight
Underweight treatment using Musk Melon (Qarbooza)
Musk melon is one of the most effective home remedies for thinness. If the melon cure is properly carried out, a rapid gain in weight can usually be achieved. In this mode of treatment, only musk melons are taken three times during the day for forty days or more. In the beginning, only three kilograms of melons are taken daily for three days. Then the quantity is increased by one kilogram daily till it is sufficient to appease the hunger. Only the sweet and fresh fruits of the best variety are used in the treatment.
Underweight treatment using Mango-Milk Cure
The mango-milk cure is also an ideal treatment for thinness. For this mode of treatment, ripe and sweet mangoes should always be selected. They should be taken thrice a day-morning, afternoon, and evening. Two medium sized mangoes should be taken first and then followed by a glass of milk. Mango is rich in sugar but deficient in protein. On the other hand, milk is rich in protein but deficient in sugar. The deficiency of one is made up by the other. Mango thus combines very well with milk and an exclusive mango-milk diet taken for at least one month, will lead to improvement in health and vigour and gain in weight
Underweight treatment using Milk Cure
An exclusive milk diet for rapid gain of weight has been advocated by some nature cure practitioners. At the beginning of this mode of treatment, the patient should fast for three days on warm water and lime juice so as to cleanse the system. Thereafter, he should have a glass of milk every two hours from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the first day, a glass every hour and half the next day, and a glass every hour the third day. Then the quantity of milk should be gradually increased so as to take a glass every half an hour from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., if such a quantity can be tolerated fairly comfortably
Underweight treatment using Figs (Anjeer)
Figs are an excellent remedy for increasing weight in case of thinness. The high percentage of the rapidly assimilable sugar in this fruit make it a strengthening and fattening food. Three dried figs soaked in water should be taken twice daily
Underweight treatment using Raisins (Kishmish)
Raisins are a good food for those who wish to gain weight. Thirty grams a day may be taken for this purpose
Underweight treatment using Nutrients
Nutrients which help to keep the nerves relaxed are of utmost importance as nervousness causes all the muscles to become tense, and the energy which goes into the tensing wastefully uses up a great deal of food. Although all vitamins and minerals are required for relaxation, the most important once are vitamin D and B6,calcium, and magnesium. The richest sources of vitamin D are milk, cod-liver oil, and rays of the sun. Calcium is supplied by milk and yoghurt. Magnesium can be obtained from green leafy vegetables such as spinach, parsley, turnip, radish, and beet tops. These vegetables should, preferably, be taken in salad form or should be lightly cooked.
Underweight diet
Diet plays an important role in building up health for gaining weight. Underweight persons should eat frequent small meals as they tend to feel full quickly. The weight-building quality of a food is measured by the number of calories it contains. To gain weight the diet should include more calories than are used in daily activities so as to allow the excess to be stored as body fat. The allowance of 500 calories in excess of the daily average needs is estimated to provide for a weight gain of half a kilogram weekly
Food to avoid when you are underweight
All refined foods such as products containing white flour and sugar should be avoided, as they destroy health
Other Underweight treatment
Exercises and Yoga
Regular exercises like walking, dancing, yoga, meditation, and massage are also important as they serve as relaxants, reduce stress, and induce good sleep. Yogasanas which are especially helpful are sarvangasana, halasana, and matsyasana.

A banana a day keeps the doctor away !~!!

Never, put your banana in the refrigerator! !!
This is interesting.
After reading this, you'll never look at a banana in the same way again.
Bananas contain three natural sugars - sucrose, fructose and glucose combined with fiber. A banana gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost of energy.
Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder the banana is the number one fruit with the world's leading athletes.
But energy isn't the only way a banana can help us keep fit. It can also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet.
Some benefits of Banana
Depression: According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier.
PMS: Forget the pills - eat a banana. The vitamin B6 it contains regulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood.
Anemia: High in iron, bananas can stimulate the production of hemoglobin in the blood and so helps in cases of anemia.
Blood Pressure: This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in potassium yet low in salt, making it perfect to beat blood pressure. So much so, the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the banana industry to make official claims for the fruit's ability to reduce the risk of blood pressure and stroke.
Brain Power: 200 students at a Twickenham (Middlesex) school were helped through their exams this year by eating bananas at breakfast, break, and lunch in a bid to boost their brain power. Research has shown that the potassium-packed fruit can assist learning by making pupils more alert.
Constipation: High in fiber, including bananas in the diet can help restore normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem without resorting to laxatives.
Hangovers: One of the quickest ways of curing a hangover is to make a banana milkshake, sweetened with honey. The banana calms the stomach and, with the help of the honey, builds up depleted blood sugar levels, while the milk soothes and re-hydrates your system.
Heartburn: Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body, so if you suffer from heartburn, try eating a banana for soothing relief.
Morning Sickness: Snacking on bananas between meals helps to keep blood sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness.
Mosquito bites: Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try rubbing the affected area with the inside of a banana skin. Many people find it amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation.
Nerves: Bananas are high in B vitamins that help calm the nervous system.
Overweight and at work? Studies at the Institute of Psychology in Austria found pressure at wor k leads to gorging on comfort food like chocolate and crisps. Looking at 5,000 hospital patients, researchers found the most obese were more likely to be in high-pressure jobs. The report concluded that, to avoid panic-induced food cravings, we need to control our blood sugar levels by snacking on high carbohydrate foods every two hours to keep levels steady.
Ulcers: The banana is used as the dietary food against intestinal disorders because of its soft texture and smoothness. It is the only raw fruit that can be eaten without distress in over-chronicler cases. It also neutralizes over-acidity and reduces irritation by coating the lining of the stomach.
Temperature control: Many other cultures see bananas as a "cooling" fruit that can lower both the physical and emotional temperature of expectant mothers. In Thailand , for example, pregnant women eat bananas to ensure their baby is born with a cool temperature.
Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD): Bananas can help SAD sufferers because they contain the natural mood enhancer tryptophan.
Smoking &Tobacco Use: Bananas can also help people trying to give up smoking. The B6, B12 they contain, as well as the potassium and magnesium found in them, help the body recover from the effects of nicotine withdrawal.
Stress: Potassium is a vital mineral, which helps normalize the heartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain and regulates your body's water balance. When we are stressed, our metabolic rate rises, thereby reducing our potassium levels. These can be rebalanced with the help of a high-potassium banana snack.
Strokes: According to research in The New England Journal of Medicine, eating bananas as part of a regular diet can cut the risk of death by strokes by as much as 40%!
Warts: Those keen on natural alternatives swear that if you want to kill off a wart, take a piece of banana skin and place it on the wart, with the yellow side out.. Carefully hold the skin in place with a plaster or surgical tape!
So, a banana really is a natural remedy for many ills. When you compare it to an apple, it has four times the protein, twice the carbohydrate, three times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals. It is also rich in potassium and is one of the best value foods around So maybe its time to change that well-known phrase so that we say, "A banana a day keeps the doctor away!"

Benefits of Fresh Fruit Juices....
A FUN and EASY way to get more vitamins & minerals into your diet is by
drinking freshly made fruit juices, vegetable juices, and by blending thick
and frothy smoothies and shakes from frozen fruit.
A friend of mine describes drinking freshly made fruit juices like this:
"If you have never taken a mouthful of cantaloupe juice or strawberry
juice mixed with apple, you simply have not lived. Blueberry juice is a
taste of liquid heaven."
Freshly made juices are a tremendous source of bio-available vitamins and
minerals which are the partners of enzymes and co-enzymes. Vitamins
activate enzymes and without vitamins, enzymes could not carry out their
work, and we could not live.
Enzymes act as catalysts in hundreds of thousands of chemical reactions
that take place throughout your body, and are essential for digesting,
absorbing and converting food into body tissue. Enzymes produce energy
at the cellular level and are critical for most of the metabolic activities taking
place in your body every second of every day.
Another benefit of drinking fresh juices and smoothies is that your body can
absorb MORE of the vitamins and minerals than if you were to eat the fruits
and vegetables whole! Many of the nutrients are TRAPPED in the fiber and
by blending fruits and vegetables, you break down the fiber and release the
vital nutrients.
Example:
When you eat a raw carrot, you are only able to assimilate a small
percentage of the available beta carotene. When a carrot is juiced,
removing the fiber, a LARGE percentage of the beta carotene can be
assimilated by your body.
Of course, you still need to eat whole produce because fiber is also an
important part of your daily diet.
Meeting you or your children's need for energy and nutrients is essential for
good health. Children who do not meet their needs for energy may stop
growing and gaining weight. In severe situations, they can develop a
condition which is life threatening called protein energy malnutrition.
Vitamins and minerals are only required in very small amounts, but a diet
insufficient in these can cause SEVERE deficiency diseases.

Alzheimer's disease
Alzheimer's disease is rare in younger people but the risk of developing it increases with age. In the UK, about 8,000 people under 65 have Alzheimer's. About one in 10 people over 80 are affected.
What is Alzheimer's disease?
Alzheimer's disease is the most common type of dementia. Dementia is the term for the deterioration of brain function that results in loss of memory, reduced language skills, impaired reasoning and behavioural and emotional problems. An estimated 700,000 people in the UK have dementia; around 400,000 of these have Alzheimer's disease.
Symptoms
Alzheimer's disease starts with forgetfulness and difficulty in finding the right words. In these early stages of the disease, family or friends may notice changes in behaviour. For example, a previously cheerful person may become sad, withdrawn or angry. He or she may no longer be able to cope with the demands of a busy life, and become frustrated with memory loss.
As the disease progresses, memory loss gets worse and some people have difficulty in learning new skills. Changes in behaviour may become more obvious, with people saying or doing things that are out of character. Everyday tasks such as getting dressed, washing, cooking, travelling and handling money become difficult.
Disorientation is common. People with Alzheimer's can lose their sense of time and place - they may, for example, get dressed in the middle of the night or walk off and get lost. New surroundings and new people may be confusing. There will be difficulty recognising previously well-known family and friends.
Some people become depressed because they realise what is happening to them. But many people with Alzheimer's don't realise they are ill.
During the late stages of the disease, people with Alzheimer's may become totally dependent on others for their care. Walking can become difficult and urinary incontinence may develop. It is at this stage that many people consider residential care, with round-the-clock nursing.
The symptoms of Alzheimer's disease can cause a great deal of stress and upset for the person's carers and family who feel they have lost the person they once knew.
The period of time between diagnosis and the person dying can be anything from 18 months to 15 years, but is usually seven to 10 years. Often the cause of death in a person with Alzheimer's is another illness, such as an infection, which become more common in people who are frail and less able to fight off infections.
What happens in the brain with Alzheimer's disease?
When the brain is working normally, signals in the form of electrical impulses travel along nerves to and from the body and other parts of the brain. They cross the gaps (synapses) between nerve cells (neurons). These signals are essential for brain activity such as language and problem solving. They are also involved in controlling movements by instructing muscles when to work.
Nerve signals travel across the synapses with the help of chemicals called neurotransmitters, including one called acetylcholine.
In Alzheimer's disease, the number of nerve cells in the brain gradually reduces and the brain shrinks. These nerve cells can't be replaced, so a person with Alzheimer's disease gets progressively worse as more cells are destroyed.
Doctors believe that nerve cell destruction causes a reduction in acetylcholine, leading to impaired transmission of nerve signals.
The damage to the brain can be seen under a microscope. Brains affected by Alzheimer's disease have areas of plaques partly made up of dead nerve cells. The dead nerve cells contain tangles of an abnormal protein. These names reflect what these abnormalities in the brain look like under the microscope.
Why do people get Alzheimer's disease?
Doctors don't know why some people get Alzheimer's disease and other people don't. It is likely that no single factor causes it, but rather that it's due to a variety of factors that differ from person to person.
In about five to 10 percent of people, Alzheimer's disease is inherited.
There are also some genetic risk factors - particular brain characteristics that you may inherit - that make you more likely to get Alzheimer's, but do not mean that you definitely will. About half of people with Alzheimer's disease have parents or brothers and sisters who have it.
Other factors that make you more likely to develop Alzheimer's include previous head injury, low level of education, high blood pressure and heart disease. People with Down's syndrome may develop Alzheimer's disease in their 30s or 40s.
Various lifestyle and environmental factors have been linked with Alzheimer's disease. Some researchers have suggested that people who keep their brains active, for example, doing crosswords are less likely to develop the disease. Eating a healthy diet with enough omega 3 fatty acids, contained in oily fish such as mackerel and salmon, may help to prevent dementia. Staying physically active may also reduce the risk of developing the disease. However, more research is needed in this area.
Diagnosis
There is no single test for Alzheimer's disease. If a GP suspects someone may have Alzheimer's, he or she will try to confirm some of the symptoms, such as memory loss and verbal (speech) impairment.
Physical examination and blood and urine tests may be done to help exclude other causes of memory and intellectual problems or different types of dementia. These include vascular dementia (often known as multi-infarct dementia, or MID), dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB), frontotemporal dementia (including Pick's disease) and alcohol-related dementia (Korsakoff's syndrome).
The GP will probably make a referral to a specialist (a neurologist, a care of the elderly physician, a psychologist or a psychiatrist) for specialist tests. These may include the mini-mental state examination (MMSE), a series of questions and tests which investigate memory, language and mathematical skills.
Other investigations may include a brain scan, typically magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
Some people will be referred to a "memory clinic" that specialises in diagnosing conditions like Alzheimer's.
Treatment
So far there is no cure for Alzheimer's disease. However, drugs can help to slow down the progression or relieve some symptoms and delay the need for residential care. Other therapies and support are available.
Drug treatment
A type of drug called cholinesterase inhibitors are used for people with moderate Alzheimer's disease. They work by reducing the breakdown of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, levels of which are low in Alzheimer's. There are three such drugs available: donepezil (Aricept), rivastigmine (Exelon) and galantamine (Reminyl). In people in the middle stages of the disease, these drugs may slow down the progression of symptoms. These drugs need to be prescribed by a specialist in dementia.
Another drug, memantine (Ebixa), was launched for people in the late stages of Alzheimer's. There is not enough evidence to show that this drug is effective, and the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) recommends that doctors do not prescribe it. Memantine may be available for some people who are taking part in a clinical trial.
Sometimes anti-depressant medicines are prescribed to help treat the depression that can be associated with Alzheimer's disease. Some people may benefit from anti-psychotic medicines (tranquillisers), which have a calming effect, to reduce behavioural problems of Alzheimer's such as aggression.
Other treatments
Various techniques, called person-centred treatments, may help people to cope with Alzheimer's disease:
behaviour management, where carers change behaviour by altering the triggers or consequences of the behaviour, can be used to reduce depression
reality orientation therapy, where a trained practitioner continually reminds the person of time, place and people, to keep him or her in the "here and now" - there is some evidence that this may delay the need for nursing care
Physical activity, conversation, mental stimulation and recreational activities can all help to improve life for people with Alzheimer's.
Help and support
Help and support in terms of respite care (giving carers a break), social services and residential care is an important part of the overall care of someone with Alzheimer's disease.

Common Cold Home Remedies
Common Cold treatment using Lemon
Lemon is the most important among the many home remedies for common cold. It is beneficial in all types of cold with fever. Vitamin C-rich lemon juice increases body resistance, decreases toxicity and reduces the duration of the illness. One lemon should be diluted in a glass of warm water, and a teaspoon of honey should be added to it. This should be taken once or twice daily.
Common Cold treatment using Garlic
Garlic soup is an old remedy to reduce the severity of a cold, and should be taken once daily. The soup can be prepared by boiling three or four cloves of chopped garlic in a cup of water. Garlic contains antiseptic and antispasmodic properties, besides several other medicinal virtues. The oil contained in this vegetable helps to open up the respiratory passages. In soup form, it flushes out all toxins from the system and thus helps bring down fever. Five drops of garlic oil combined with a teaspoon of onion juice, and diluted in a cup of water, should be drunk two to three times a day. This has also been found to be very effective in the treatment of common cold.
Common Cold treatment using Ginger
Ginger is another excellent remedy for colds and coughs. About ten grams of ginger should be cut into small pieces and boiled in a cup of water. It should then be strained and half a teaspoon of sugar added to it. This decoction should be drunk when hot. Ginger tea, prepared by adding a few pieces of ginger into boiled water before adding the tea leaves, is also an effective remedy for colds and for fevers resulting from cold. It may be taken twice daily.
Common Cold treatment using Lady's Fingers
Lady's fingers are highly valuable in treating irritation of the throat and a persistent dry cough. This vegetable is rich in mucilage and acts as a drug to allay irritation, swelling, and pain. About 100 gm of lady's fingers should be cut into pieces, and boiled down in half a litre of water to make a decoction. The steam issuing from this decoction may also be inhaled once or twice a day to relieve throat irritation and a dry cough.
Common Cold treatment using Bitter Gourd Roots
The roots of the bitter gourd plant are used in folk medicine to cure a cold. A teaspoon of the root paste, mixed with an equal quantity of honey or tulsi leaf juice, given once every night for a month, acts as an excellent medicine for colds.
Common Cold treatment using Turmeric
Turmeric is an effective remedy for colds and throat irritations. Half a teaspoon of fresh turmeric powder mixed in 30 ml of warm milk, and taken once or twice daily, is a useful prescription for these conditions. Turmeric powder should be put into a hot ladle. Milk should then be poured in it and boiled over slow heat. This mixture should then be drunk by the patient. In case of a running cold, smoke from the burning turmeric should be inhaled. It will increase the discharge from the nose and provide quick relief.
Common Cold treatment using Tamarind and Pepper
Tamarind-pepper rasam is also considered an effective home remedy for a cold in South India. Dilute 50 mg tamarind in 250 ml of water. Boil the diluted tamarind water for a few minutes with a teaspoon of hot ghee and half a teaspoon of black pepper powder. This steaming hot rasam has a flushing effect, and should be taken three times a day. As one takes it, the nose and eyes water and the nasal blockage is cleared.
Common Cold treatment using Vitamin C
Regular intake of vitamin C-75 mg for adults and 35 mg for children-will prevent the common cold. If, however, a cold has already appeared, large doses of this vitamin will relieve the symptoms and shorten its duration. It is estimated that one to two grams (1000 mg to 2000 mg) per day is approximately the optimum amount of this vitamin for this purpose. His advice is to swallow one or two 500mg tablets of vitamin C at the appearance of the first sign of the cold and continue the treatment by taking one to two 500 mg tablets daily.
Home Remedies for Measles
MEASLES
Measles, a highly infectious disease, is very common in childhood. It is so common at this stage of life that nearly all children in most parts of the world suffer form it.
Measles symptoms
feverishness, cold, watering of the eyes
The first symptoms that appear for seven to fourteen days after exposure to the virus are feverishness, cold, watering of the eyes, and a dry cough. A rash appears on the skin four days after the onset of these symptoms. This rash, which consists of small rounded spots with reddened skin in between, initially appears on the sides of the face and the neck, and then gradually spreads allover the body, appearing last on the extremities. Initially pink in colour, the spots grow darker as time passes.
Fever and diarrhoea
Measles is usually accompanied by fever and diarrhoea. In severe cases, high fever and delirium may occur. Complications which can arise from this disease include pneumonia, bronchitis, and abscesses in the ears. One serious but rare complication is inflammation of the brain.
Measles and the Symptoms:
First 2 to 3 days
Very high fever (up to 105 degrees) .
Cold like symptom, including a runny nose: a dry cough: swollen glands: red, watery eyes, loss of appetite and aching muscles.
A day or two later
Inside the mouth, painless small gray or white bumps, like grains of salt surrounded by red rings.
In another day
Small red spots that first appear on the face and the neck. As they spread down the body, they join to form large blotches .
Measles causes
Virus
Measles is one of the most contagious diseases caused by a virus. This disease is easily transmitted in the early stages through the invisible droplets of moisture, which are discharged from a patient's nose or mouth when he coughs or sneezes.
Wrong feeding habits and unhygienic living conditions
The real causes of this disease, like other diseases of childhood, are however; wrong feeding habits and unhygienic living conditions.
Home Remedies for Measles
Measles treatment using Orange
Oranges are very valuable in measles, as the digestive power of the body is seriously hampered. The patient suffers from intense toxaemia, and the lack of saliva coats his tongue and often destroys his thirst for water as well as his desire for food. The agreeable flavour of orange juice helps greatly in overcoming these drawbacks. Orange juice is the ideal liquid food for this disease.
Measles treatment using Lemon Juice
The juice of lemon also makes an effective thirst-quenching drink in measles. About 15 to 25 ml of lemon juice, diluted with water, should be take for this purpose.
Measles treatment using Turmeric
Turmeric is beneficial in the treatment of measles. Raw roots of turmeric should be dried in the sun and ground to a fine powder. Half a teaspoon of this powder, mixed with a few drops of honey and the juice of a few bitter gourd leaves, should be given to patients suffering from measles.
Measles treatment using Liquorice
Powdered liquorice has been found valuable in relieving the cough, which is typical in measles. The child patient should be given half a teaspoon of powdered liquorice mixed with the same quantity of honey.
Measles treatment using Barley
The use of barley water has proved beneficial for the troublesome cough in measles. This water should be taken frequently, sweetened with the newly-drawn oil of sweet almonds.
Measles treatment using Egg Plant Seeds
The seeds of the egg plant are a stimulant. Intake of half to one gram of these seeds daily for three days will help develop immunity against measles for one year.
Give your chills lots of fluids . Help your child rest in bed. Use a cool-mist humidifier in your child's bedroom. If your child's eyes are sensitive to light, darken the bedroom. If your child has minor aches or pains, give acetaminophen. Keep your child away from others.
Measles diet
Juices of fresh fruits like oranges and lemons frequently.
At the beginning of the treatment, the patient should be given juices of fresh fruits like oranges and lemons frequently. This is sufficient as the child suffers from a lack of appetite during this period.
All-fruit diet followed by well-balanced diet
As the condition improves, the child can be placed on an all-fruit diet for a few days. Thereafter he may be allowed to gradually embark upon a well-balanced diet.
Other Measles treatment
Well-ventilated room is essential
The child should be kept in a well-ventilated room. As light has a detrimental effect upon the eyes during measles because of the weakened condition of the external eye tissues, the child should have his eyes shaded or the room should have subdued light.
Warm-water enema, application of mud packs
The treatment should aim at bringing down the temperature and eliminating the toxins from the system. This can be achieved by administration of a warm-water enema every morning, application of mud packs on the abdomen twice a day - in the morning and evening, and repeated application of chest packs. Lukewarm water baths can be given every day to ease itching. Addition of extracts of neem leaves to this water will prove beneficial.
Complete rest
Children having measles should not be allowed to mix with others so as to avoid passing on the infection to them. In fact, they should take complete rest. Hygienic conditions, along with the above-mentioned treatment, will lead to a speedy recovery.
Avoid medication
Medication should be strictly avoided.
Prevention of Measeles:
Make sure your child gets the MMR vaccine for measles, mumps and rubella. This shot is given at 12 to 18 months, with booster at 4 to 6 years.
