10 habits of loving couple

1. Say "I Love You" at least once a day. Your partner does need to hear the words.

2. Kiss good-bye & hello. Throw in a hug while you're at it.

3. "Date" your partner for the rest of your lives. Treat your partner even better than when you were dating... Remember that you are sweethearts:

  • open her door
  • straighten his tie
  • hold out her chair
  • hold hands when you're walking together

4. Don't sweat the small stuff. You can let his/her bad habits bother you to distraction. .. or you can accept them, and work around them. Does she leave the cap off the toothpaste? Buy separate tubes... Does he leave clothes laying around? Ignore them, or pick them up, remembering just how much he does for you in other ways. Or, make it easier for your partner to satisfy you... buy several clothes hampers and keep them handy.

5. Concentrate on the positive. Instead of thinking about the ways that s/he lets you down, think of all the positive things about your partner that drew you to them in the first place.

6. Take a breather when you're mad. Don't try to talk when either of you are angry. Take a few minutes to walk around the block, lay down, just get away from each other so you can regroup. A short break will allow you both to stay on track and discuss what's bothering you instead of accidentally making personal insults that you will regret later.

7. Don't use your partner's secrets or weaknesses against them... ever! What may seem insignificant, trivial, or cute to you may be serious to your partner. Recognize what is important to your partner, and don't discuss it with your friends, mother, his family, anyone! And certainly don't throw the words back at them in an argument. A loving relationship is one of the most intimate and trusting that anyone can have.

8. Think about your partner first. If both of you do this, then you can't help but win! Say "yes" to your partner as often as possible... go to that sports event with him, get him out on that golf course because he loves golf, make life easier for your partner, and hopefully they will do the same for you!

9. R-E-S-P-E-C- T your partner. Don't badmouth your partner to anyone! When you talk about your partner, let your respect and love shine through.

10. Find a way to regroup together every day. Discover what works well for you both... eat a meal together, meet for happy hour drinks, skip Leno at night and just lay in bed in the dark, take a walk around the block, etc. You can even mix things up and vary your routine. If one of you is traveling, call home at night just to hear their voice. The point is to spend time together daily, just talking or breathing the same air, feeling connected.

What is the difference between men and women?

1. A successful man is one who makes more money than his wife can spend. A successful woman is one who can find such a man.

2. Men wake up as good-looking as when they went to bed. Women somehow deteriorate during the night....

3. A man will pay $2 for a $1 item he wants. A woman will pay $1 for a $2 item that she doesn't want.

4. A woman marries a man expecting he will change, but he doesn't. A man marries a woman expecting that she won't change, and she does.

5. There are two times when a man doesn't understand a woman- before and after marriage.

6. A woman worries about the future until she gets a husband. A man never worries about the future until he gets a wife.

7. To be happy with a man, you must understand him a lot and love him a little. To be happy with a woman, you must love her a lot and not try to understand her at all.

8. Any married man should forget his mistakes. There's no use in two people remembering the same thing!

9. A woman has the last word in any argument. Anything a man says after that is the beginning of a new argument.

10. Women look at a wedding as the beginning of romance, while men look at a wedding as the ending of romance.

BEST Friend--Story

A story tells that two friends
were walking
through the desert
During some point of the
Journey they had an
Argument, and one friend
Slapped the other one
In the face.

The one who got slapped
was hurt, but without
saying anything,
wrote in the sand:

TODAY MY BEST FRIEND
SLAPPED ME IN THE FACE.

They kept on walking
until they found an oasis,
where they decided
to take a bath.
The one who had been
slapped got stuck in the
mire and started drowning,
but the friend saved him.

After he recovered from
the near drowning,
he wrote on a stone:

TODAY MY BEST FRIEND
SAVED MY LIFE.

The friend who had slapped
and saved his best friend
asked him, "After I hurt you,
you wrote in the sand and now,
you write on a stone, why?"
The other friend replied
"When someone hurts us
we should write it down
in sand where winds of
forgiveness can erase it away.
But, when someone does
something good for us,
we must engrave it in stone
where no wind
can ever erase it."

LEARN TO WRITE
YOUR HURTS IN
THE SAND AND TO
CARVE YOUR
BENEFITS IN STONE.

Do not value the THINGS
you have in your life. But value
WHO you have in your life!

Home Remedies for BONE SPUR

BONE SPUR Bone spur, or technically, Osteophytes is an extra bone that grows on the normal bone. In medical jargon bone spur is known as osteophytes. It occurs on the joints especially on the joints of the spine, feet, shoulders, hips, hands and knees. Bone spur itself does not cause any pain but it can cause pain when it rubs against other bones and nerves around it. Bone spur is quite common among people above 60 years of age and is an indication of spine degeneration.

Symptoms for Bone spur

Malnutrition, unhealthy lifestyle, accidents and sport injuries are some of the factors that lead to bone spur.

Bone spur causes
Bone spur is mainly found in people suffering from osteoarthritis. Home Remedies for BRITTLE NAILS !!

BRITTLE NAILS Are your fingernails thin and fragile? Do they crack, split, or break easily? Does it seem to take forever for your fingernails to grow? If so, you have brittle nails.

Lots of things can cause dray, brittle nails. For one, brittle nails are a natural part of the aging process, so people over 35 are more likely to have brittle nails. However, exposure to certain things in every day life can cause brittle nails in people of all ages. Using household cleaners without gloves can cause damage to your skin and hands. And the heater used to keep your house, school, and place of business warm in the winter can also cause dry, bitter nails.

But the major cause of brittle nails seems to be exposure to water. Whether you wash dishes every day, or go swimming several times a week, frequent exposure to water can cause your nails to become weak, dry, and brittle.

Home remedies for brittle nails.

Treat Brittle Nails with Vegetable Oil

Vegetable oil can help replace the moisture lost by frequent exposure to water. Just use a cotton swab to brush vegetable oil on each fingernail, both on top and on the underside. Then, massage the oil into your nails. Repeat this treatment three or four times every day. The oil will add much-need moisture to your brittle nails, and the massage will improve blood circulation in that area.

Moisturize Hands Frequently

If you have brittle nails, moisturizing frequently will help. You can find hand lotions and creams designed to help strengthen nails. Moisturize after you wash your hands, get out of the pool, wash the dishes, or any time your hands have been exposed to water.

Treat Brittle Nails from the Inside

The foods you eat can have some effect on the condition of your fingernails. If you have brittle nails, think of adding foods that contain biotin, a B vitamin. Biotin, which is a B vitamin, can help your nails grow thicker and strong. Some foods that contain biotin are peanuts, lentils, egg yolks, sardines, mushrooms, bananas, liver, and cauliflower. You could also consider taking biotin supplements to strengthen brittle nails.
It could take a few months for the biotin to work, so don’t expect instant results. Give the treatment time to improve the condition of your brittle nails.

Keep Brittle Nails Short

Brittle nails that are longer are more likely to break, crack, and split. So, until your nails have had a chance to get thicker and stronger, it’s best to keep them trimmed short.

Brittle nails aren’t just frustrating. When they split or crack, they can also be painful. Try these treatments, and your nails will go from thin and brittle to thick and healthy.

LOVERS....

Girl: Do i ever cross ur mind?
Boy: No

Girl: Do you like me?
Boy: Not really

Girl: Do you want me?
Boy: No

Girl: Would you cry if I left?
Boy: No

Girl: Would you live for me?
Boy: No

Girl: Would you do anything for me?
Boy: No

Girl: Choose--me or ur life
Boy: my life

The girl runs away in shock and pain and the boy runs after her and says...

The reason you never cross my mind is because you're always on my mind.
The reason why I don't like you is because I love you.
The reason I don't want you is because I need you.
The reason I wouldn't cry if you left is because I would die if you left.
The reason I wouldn't live for you is because I would die for you.
The reason why I'm not willing to do anything for you is because I would do everything for you.
The reason I chose my life is because you ARE my life.

Home Remedies to IMPROVE YOUR MEMORY

If you are having problems remembering things, there are some simple things you can do to improve your memory. The first thing you will want to master is repetition. When you repeat things many times over, it increasing the chances that your brain will store it into your long term memory.

Repetition is directly connected to your ability to memorize important information. The next thing you will want to use is association. If you need to remember something that is important, associate it with an image which is very important to you.

By making this connection, your brain is much more likely to retain the information. You should also strive to learn at least one new fact each day. It should be something you're interested in. Your brain is much more likely to retain information that interests you. It will discard information that you find to be boring. A large percentage of our brains are composed of fatty substances. Because of this, the foods we consume can have an effect on the function of our brains. Because of this, you will want to make sure you only eat foods which are healthy to your brain. Eating good foods for your brain is just as important as eating the proper foods for the rest of your body.

It is also important to exercise your mind. Like your muscles, a brain which is exercised will be mentally fit. If you don't exercise your brain, you will become mentally weak. Antioxidants can enhance your immune system and protect your neurons. This is very important as you age, as memory problems have been connected to the aging process. Blackberries, raspberries, and raisins are excellent for keeping your brain healthy as you get older. These foods are full of antioxidants. Another product you will want to eat on a consistent basis is almonds. Eating about eight almonds a day can do a lot to improve your memory.

Milk and honey have been shown to help improve your memory. While there are many books you can buy which will present a number of techniques you can use to improve your memory, you don't want to forget about the foods you eat. Many people take this for granted. We always hear about the foods which are good to eat for those who want to lose weight and stay in great shape. Unfortunately, you don't hear a lot about the importance of brain food. What good is being physically fit if you are not mentally fit as well?

When you were young, your parents probably told you to eat lots of fruits and vegetables, and there is a reason for this. Studies have consistently shown that eating the right foods can help you improve your memory. We live in a society where eating bad foods is the norm for many people. It is unfortunate that more fast food restaurants don't add either fruits or vegetables to their menu. However, it is up to you to take responsibility for the health of both your brain and your body. Nobody has a more vested interest in your health than you. We live in a world of information.

On a daily basis, the typical individual can expect to receive a ton of information. Much of this information is worthless, and your brain will discard it. However, there is a lot of information which is presented to you that has to be memorized. Because of this, your brain must know what information should be retained and what should be discarded. Having a knowledge of memory improvement techniques will allow you to store important information in your long term memory while discarding data which is not important. By eating the right foods will make this process easier. There are two primary reasons why people have memory problem.

The first reason is a result of them not knowing how to control the information that they receive. The second reason is not caring for their mind and body in a way that makes it easier for them to process information. Once you master these two things, there is little that will be able to stop you from enjoying a long, health life were you continue to learn new things each day.

Liver..

LIVER CARE The liver is the largest single gland in the body. It is located on the right side of the abdomen under the lower ribs and just under the diaphragm which divides the chest from the abdomen. Liver performs a number of important functions in the body. When the liver is healthy it works very smoothly. But the liver can be affected by a number of serious disorders, such as virus infections, parasites, and disturbances of the circulation, stone formation in the bile ducts, injuries due to poisonous substances, and various kinds of tumors.

Most of the foods we eat are stored in the liver, after having been digested and absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. The liver has another very important function, that of detoxifying or destroying many harmful poisons and even certain medicines that are taken into the body for other purposes. When the liver is sick these functions are impaired and soon the whole body suffers. Not only does the liver store food materials, it also produces bile, a golden-yellowish liquid that is needed for the absorption of fat from the intestine. Another important substance produced in the liver is cholesterol, part of which passes into the bile. It may even form stones in the bile ducts and gall bladder under certain conditions.

Another important component is prothrombin, which is needed for the clotting of the blood. Urea, an important component of the urine, is also produced in the liver. The production of all these substances may be changed under certain disease conditions.

Jaundice is a disease marked by a yellow discoloration in the skin or in the whites of the eye. This is due to excessive amount of bile in the blood stream. Hepatitis is an acute inflammation of the liver caused by some infectious or toxic agent. The skin may be discolored and the whites of the eyes turn yellow. Various substances and organisms may be responsible for hepatitis, including germs, viruses, and toxic agents.

Another important disease of the liver is the cirrhosis of the liver. It is mostly associated with alcoholism. Poor nutrition may be responsible for this condition also. In some cases chronic poisoning with industrial fluids, such as carbon tetrachloride, may also play a part. In the early stages of the disease there may be frequent attacks of gas and indigestion, with occassional nausea and vomiting and with abdominal pain and weight loss.

Cancer may occur in almost any organ of the body. When it begins in the stomach or large bowel, the liver may soon be involved mainly because the blood flows toward the liver from all the digestive organs including the pancreas and gall bladder. This is known as metastatic carcinoma.

HOME REMEDIES FOR LIVER CARE

Papaya has been found beneficial in the treatment of cirrhosis of the liver, caused by alcoholism and malnutrition. Take a tablespoon of juice by grinding the seeds, mix with ten drops of fresh limejuice, and take it once or twice daily for about a month as a medicine for this disease. This is one of the important home remedies for liver care.

The herb trailing eclipta, botanically known as eclipta Alba (Bhringaraj ), has proved invaluable in cirrhosis of the liver. Take the juice of all parts of this plant in doses of one teaspoon, mixed with one teaspoon of honey, three times daily.

Picrorhiza known as picrorhiza kurroa (Katuki) is a drug of choice in ayurveda for cirrhosis of the liver among adults. Mix a tablespoon of the powder with an equal quantity of honey, take this thrice daily.

The juice of carrots, in combination with spinach juice, has been found beneficial in the treatment of cirrhosis of the liver. Mix -200 ml of Spinach juice with 300 ml of carrot juice to prepare 500 ml or half a liter of combined juices. Similarly, 300 ml of carrot juice, combined with 100 ml each of cucumber and beet juices can be used effectively. The patient must stop taking alcohol in any form. One of the best home remedies for liver care.

Vegetables such as beets, squashes, bitter gourd, eggplant, tomatoes, carrots, radishes, and papaya are especially useful in this condition.

The patient should avoid all refined, processed, and canned foods; spices and condiments; strong tea and coffee; fried foods; all preparations cooked in ghee, oil, or butter; all meats; and all chemical additives in food. The use of salt should be limited. Application of hot and cold compresses, for two to three minutes each, on the liver area are beneficial.

Daily morning exercises, which involve stretching and deep breathing, are also effective in preventing the liver. Stretching and deep breathing kind of exercises early in the morning provide the most benefit for anyone with sluggish liver.

Soak 1 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon of Bentonite clay in 1 cup of filtered water for 12 hours. Then add ½ to 1 tablespoon of psyllium husks or plantago seeds to the clay mixture and mix well. Drink and eat the whole cup of mixture immediately and then followed by 1 cup of warm water before bedtime. This is an effective home remedy for liver. Drink at least 8 cups of warm water a day including 2 cups first thing in the morning. Epsom salt may help in flushing out the stones from the gall bladder. Epsom salt dilates the bile duct.

Take 2 tablespoons of GCG to crush the stone and wait for 1½ to 2 hours before taking 1 tablespoon each of Coptis and Curcuma again. The crushed stones appear to move easier and the pain is relieved. This is one of the best home remedies for liver care..

Milk thistle is found useful in patients who have developed acute liver disease from drugs, environmental toxins or ethanol or mushroom poisoning.

Another good home remedy for liver care is to take one tablespoon each of Coptis and Curcuma can usually help to push out the stones or other blockages.

A licorice root extract called glycyrrhizin has also shown good result as a possible remedy for chronic hepatitis C and liver cancer.

THINGS YOUR BODY CAN DO AFTER YOU DIE !

From getting hitched to saving the environment, here's proof you can still be a busybody long after you kick the bucket. Plastinated body at 'Body Worlds', the anatomical exhibition of real humans, in Los Angeles, California.

1. Get married
Death is no obstacle when it comes to love in China. That's because ghost marriage -- the practice of setting up deceased relatives with suitable spouses, dead or alive -- is still an option.Ghost marriage first appeared in Chinese legends 2,000 years ago, and it's been a staple of the culture ever since. At times, it was a way for spinsters to gain social acceptance after death. At other times, the ceremony honored dead sons by giving them living brides. In both cases, the marriages served a religious function by making the deceased happier in the afterlife. While the practice of matchmaking for the dead waned during China's Cultural Revolution in the late 1960s, officials report that ghost marriages are back on the rise. Today, the goal is often to give a deceased bachelor a wife -- preferably one who has recently been laid to rest. But in a nation where men outnumber women in death as well as in life, the shortage of corpse brides has led to murder. In 2007, there were two widely reported cases of rural men killing prostitutes, housekeepers, and mentally ill women in order to sell their bodies as ghost wives. Worse, these crimes pay. According to The Washington Post and The London Times, one undertaker buys women's bodies for more than $2,000 and sells them to prospective "in-laws" for nearly $5,000.

2. Unwind with a few friends
Today, most of us think of mummies as rare and valuable artifacts, but to the ancient Egyptians, they were as common as iPhones. So, where have all those mummies gone? Basically, they've been used up. Europeans and Middle Easterners spent centuries raiding ancient Egyptian tombs and turning the bandaged bodies into cheap commodities. For instance, mummy-based panaceas were once popular as quack medicine. In the 16th century, French King Francis I took a daily pinch of mummy to build strength, sort of like a particularly offensive multivitamin. Other mummies, mainly those of animals, became kindling in homes and steam engines. Meanwhile, human mummies frequently fell victim to Victorian social events. During the late 19th century, it was popular for wealthy families to host mummy-unwrapping parties, where the desecration of the dead was followed by cocktails and hors d'oeuvres.

3. Tour the globe

as a scandalous work of artBeginning in 1996 with the BODY WORLDS show in Japan, exhibits featuring artfully flayed human bodies have rocked the museum circuit. BODY WORLDS is now in its fourth incarnation, and competing shows, such as Bodies Revealed, are pulling in $30 million per year. The problem is, it's not always clear where those bodies are coming from.Dr. Gunther von Hagens, the man behind BODY WORLDS, has documented that his bodies were donated voluntarily to his organization. However, his largest competitor, Premier Entertainment, doesn't have a well-established donation system. Premier maintains that its cadavers are unclaimed bodies from mainland China. And therein lies the concern. Activists and journalists believe "unclaimed bodies" is a euphemism for "executed political prisoners."The fear isn't unfounded. In 2006, Canada commissioned a human rights report that found Chinese political prisoners were being killed so that their organs could be "donated" to transplant patients. And in February 2008, ABC News ran an exposé featuring a former employee from one of the Chinese companies that supplied corpses to Premier Entertainment. In the interview, he claimed that one-third of the bodies he processed were political prisoners. Not surprisingly, governments have started to take notice. In January 2008, the California State Assembly passed legislation requiring body exhibits to prove that all their corpses were willfully donated.

4. Fuel a city
Cremating a body uses up a lot of energy -- and a lot of nonrenewable resources. So how do you give Grandma the send-off she wanted and protect the planet at the same time? Multitask. Some European crematoriums have figured out a way to replace conventional boilers by harnessing the heat produced in their fires, which can reach temperatures in excess of 1,832 degrees Fahrenheit. In fact, starting in 1997, the Swedish city of Helsingborg used local crematoriums to supply 10 percent of the heat for its homes.

5. Get sold, chop shop-style
Selling a stiff has always been a profitable venture. In the Middle Ages, grave robbers scoured cemeteries and sold whatever they could dig up to doctors and scientists. And while the business of selling cadavers and body parts in the United States is certainly cleaner now, it's no less dubious.Today, the system runs like this: Willed-body donation programs, often run by universities, match cadavers with the researchers who need them. But because dead bodies and body parts can't be sold legally, the middlemen who supply these bodies charge large fees for "shipping and handling." Shipping a full cadaver can bring in as much as $1,000, but if you divvy up a body into its component parts, you can make a fortune. A head can cost as much as $500; a knee, $650; and a disembodied torso, $5,000.The truth is, there are never enough of these willed bodies to meet demand. And with that kind of money on the mortician's table, corruption abounds. In the past few years, coroners have been busted stealing corneas, crematorium technicians have been caught lifting heads off bodies before they're burned, and university employees at body donation programs have been found stealing cadavers. After UCLA's willed-body program director was arrested for selling body parts in 2004, the State of California recommended outfitting corpses with bar code tattoos or tracking chips, like the kinds injected into dogs and cats. The hope is to make cadavers easier to inventory and track down when they disappear.

6. Become a Soviet tourist attraction
Russian revolutionary Vladimir Lenin wanted to be buried in his family plot. But when Lenin died in 1924, Joseph Stalin insisted on putting his corpse on public display in Red Square, creating a secular, Communist relic. Consequently, an organization called the Research Institute for Biological Structures was formed to keep Lenin's body from decay. The Institute was no joke, as some of the Soviet Union's most brilliant minds spent more than 25 years working and living on site to perfect the Soviet system of corpse preservation. Scientists today still use their method, which involves a carefully controlled climate, a twice-weekly regimen of dusting and lubrication, and semi-annual dips in a secret blend of 11 herbs and chemicals. Unlike bodies, however, fame can't last forever. The popularity of the tomb is dwindling, and the Russian government is now considering giving Lenin the burial he always wanted.

7. Snuggle up with your stalker
When a beautiful young woman named Elena Hoyos died of tuberculosis in Florida in 1931, her life as a misused object of desire began. Her admirer, a local X-ray technician who called himself Count Carl von Cosel, paid for Hoyos to be embalmed and buried in a mausoleum above ground. Then, in 1933, the crafty Count stole Elena's body and hid it in his home. During the next seven years, he worked to preserve her corpse, replacing her flesh as it decayed with hanger wires, molded wax, and plaster of Paris. He even slept beside Elena's body in bed -- that is, until her family discovered her there. In the ensuing media circus, more than 6,000 people filed through the funeral home to view Elena before she was put to rest. Her family buried her in an unmarked grave so that von Cosel couldn't find her, but that didn't stop his obsession. Von Cosel wrote about Elena for pulp fiction magazines and sold postcards of her likeness until he was found dead in his home in 1952. Near his body was a life-size wax dummy made to look just like Elena.

8. Don't spread an epidemic
In the aftermath of natural disasters such as tsunamis, floods and hurricanes, it's common for the bodies of victims to be buried or burned en masse as soon as possible. Supposedly, this prevents the spread of disease. But according to the World Health Organization (WHO), dead bodies have been getting a bad rap. It turns out that the victims of natural disasters are no more likely to harbor infectious diseases than the general population. Plus, most pathogens can't survive long in a corpse. Taken together, the WHO says there's no way that cadavers are to blame for post-disaster outbreaks. So what is? The fault seems to lie with the living or, more specifically, their living conditions. After a disaster, people often end up in crowded refugee camps with poor sanitation. For epidemic diseases, that's akin to an all-you-can- eat buffet.

9. Stand trial
In 897, Pope Stephen VI accused former Pope Formosus of perjury and violation of church canon. The problem was that Pope Formosus had died nine months earlier.Stephen worked around this little detail by exhuming the dead pope's body, dressing it in full papal regalia, and putting it on trial. He then proceeded to serve as chief prosecutor as he angrily cross-examined the corpse. The spectacle was about as ludicrous as you'd imagine. In fact, Pope Stephen appeared so thoroughly insane that a group of concerned citizens launched a successful assassination plot against him. The next year, one of Pope Stephen's successors reversed Formosus' conviction, ordering his body reburied with full honors.

10. Stave off freezer burn
At cryonics facilities around the globe, the dead aren't frozen anymore. The reason? Freezer burn. As with steaks and green beans, freezing a human body damages tissues, largely because cells burst as the water in them solidifies and expands. In the early days of cryonics, the theory was that future medical technology would be able to fix this damage, along with curing whatever illness killed the patient in the first place.Realizing that straight freezing isn't the best option, today's scientists have made significant advances in cryonics. Using a process called vitrification, the water in the body is now replaced with an anti-freezing agent. The body is then stored at cold temperatures, but no ice forms. In 2005, researchers vitrified a rabbit kidney and successfully brought it back to complete functionality -- a big step in cryonics research. (It may help in organ transplants someday, too.)But science has yet to prove that an entire body can be revived. Even worse, some vitrified bodies have developed large cracks in places where cracks don't belong. Until those kinks get worked out, the hope of being revived in the future will remain a dream.

nEver & Ever cry for any ONe who Makes you CRY : )

Once, there was this guy, who was in love with a gal.
She wasn't the most beautiful and
gorgeous but for him, she was everything.

He used to dream about her, about spending the rest of life with her. His friends told him, "Why do you dream so much about her, when you don't even know if she loves you or not?

First tell her your feelings, and get to know if she likes you or not".
He felt that was the right way. The girl knew from the beginning, that this guy loves her.

One day when he proposed, she rejected him.
His friends thought he would take to alcohol; drugs etc. and ruin his life.
To their surprise, he was not depressed.

When they asked him how was it that he is not sad, he replied,
"'why should I feel bad? I lost one who never loved me & she lost the one
who really loved and cared for her."

Last but not least " Love is not heart of life, it's a part of life"

calcaneal apophysitis (heel pain)...

calcaneal apophysitis (heel pain)
(Sever's disease)

Calcaneal apophysitis otherwise known as Sever's disease is a painful condition that occurs in the heel bone (calcaneaus) in patients generally between the ages of 10 to 15 years of age.

Calcaneal apophysitis is a disease of the growth plate of the bone.
As babies most of our bones are made up of cartilage. The bones have what is known as a growth plate. It is from this growth plate that each bone continues to form eventually becoming adult bones. That is why a calcaneal apophysitis is seen during development at ages 10-15; this is just before the bones fuse and finalize in their appearance. This type of condition is not limited to the heel bone.

The Achilles tendon attaches into the back portion of the heel bone. It is thought that the tension created by the Achilles tendon on that portion of bone 'pulls' that section of bone away from the remaining section of heel bone at the level of the growth plate and thus creates pain (note the blue arrows). Because of this mechanism, this condition is also known as a traction apophysitis.

Typically, the young patient will complain of pain on the inside and outside of the heel bone.
The pain will be worse during practice and will generally only improve somewhat when not participating in their sport, only to worsen once they play again. Obviously, this pain then limits their ability to compete.

One of the things that is often overlooked is the type of athletic shoe worn by the young athlete. An adolescent athlete may be heavy and strong enough to drive the cleats in the heel of the shoe into the ground, but not the cleats or studs in the forefoot which remain on top of the ground. This creates a relative dorsiflexion of the foot to the ankle and will increase the tension on the achilles tendon resulting in apophysitis. Turf shoes or sneakers with an elevated heel or the addition of heel lifts to the shoes should help negate this situation.

Additionally, athletic shoes that are too worn out in the heel area will also create this relative dorsiflexion of the foot on the ankle. Needless to say replacing worn out athletic shoes may go a long way to reduce the strain on the achilles tendon at the heel bone.

Diagnosis is made on the clinical history. X-rays should be taken to rule out a fracture in the area but the growth plate looks the same with or without this condition. Some clinicians feel that in an apophysitis the growth plate will look at bit more jagged than a normal heel, but I feel the interpretation is very subjective and not reliable.

As is a common theme on this site in regards to foot pain, walking on an injured area tends to delay healing so the pain of an apophysitis can linger. As much as the child does not want to hear it, in many cases rest is necessary to reduce the pain; this may mean giving up their sport.
Depending on the degree of pain the patient may try icing the heel both before and after practice. Anti-inflammatory medication may also be helpful taken 30 minutes before practice.

Many patients who suffer from an apophysitis have a tight heel cord which then puts more strain on the back portion of bone. To see if you have a tight heel cord as a precipitating cause of calcaneal apophysitis, see the section on achilles tendonitis.. If that is the case a gel heel lift can be very helpful to both take tension off the Achilles tendon and to cushion the heel.

Some doctors feel that feet that exhibit too much PRONATION are more prone to a calcaneal apophysitis due to the way the heel hits the ground when running (and walking) and that the best way to treat the problem is through the use of orthotics. If the child has a tight heel cord it is better not put them in orthotics because in that situation pronation is the way the child is compensating for the tight heel cord and to add an orthotic to this scenario will only increase the tension on the Achilles tendon. A better approach would be to strap the heel to not allow over pronation.

In any event, a calcaneal apophysitis is a self-limiting condition and will eventually resolve itself. The only variable is how long it will take in a given individual.( usually by age of 16 yrs )

AVOIDING ALLERGIES: From Food or Feathers !!

Have you ever experienced itching and rashes after eating a lobster, a crab, or shrimps? Chances are you have an allergy. An allergy is an immune system response. The signs and symptoms of allergy are reactions of the immune system to substances or chemicals that are normally harmless. Just a little exposure to an allergen is enough to alert the immune system of the substance. Immediately, the immune system would signal for the release of histamine and other chemicals. The release of these chemicals triggers swelling, itching, mucus production, hives, rashes, and muscle spasms. The extent of the reaction is different from person to person. For some people, an allergic reaction could be life threatening and demand immediate medical attention. Life threatening reactions are called anaphylaxis. People with eczema and asthma usually have allergies connected with the disorders.

Allergens could be anything depending on a person's response. Some people are even allergic to hot or cold temperatures, sunlight, or other physical stimuli. Allergic reactions could also be brought about by the use of certain cosmetics, jewelry, and insect bites. The most common allergens include: pollen from trees, grass, and weeds, mold, proteins found in the skin, saliva, and urine of domesticated animals, and dust mites.

In order to prevent activating your allergy to pollen, take a bath or shower before bedtime to make sure to get rid of pollen on your hair and skin. During dry, windy days, avoid going outside and close windows and doors. You might need to have air conditioner at home and in your car. If you want to fight molds, remove house plants and clean shower curtains often, including bathroom windows, wet walls, areas with dry rot, and indoor trash cans. To effectively kill a mold, you have to use a mixture of water and chlorine bleach. To prevent mold, increase the movement of air inside the house using fans or by opening doors and windows. You may also decide to use mold-proof paint on your bathroom and use a humidifier to reduce humidity in the house.

If you have severe allergy related to your pets, perhaps it would be best not to have a pet in the first place. However, you could also do well by giving your pet a daily bath and by using air filter. You could also consult your friendly veterinarian about reducing pet dander in the house.

You can never get rid of dust and dust mites, but you could reduce them. To do so, get rid of feather pillows, drapes, upholstered furniture, non-washable comforters, and soft toys. Use linoleum or wood instead of a carpet, although polished floors are the best option for you. Mop the floor often with damp mop and clean surfaces with damp cloth. Regular vacuuming is needed, especially on soft furniture, curtains, and floors. You may also need to install an air cleaner. Try not to use mattress pads, but cover mattress and pillows with plastic covers instead. Lowering the humidity of the house also helps fight off dust.

PETS 4 PEOPLE With Allergies or Asthma....

You have probably heard about the health benefits of having a pet. Pets bring life and joy to their owners. Families with pets are generally healthier in many respects. If you, or someone you love, suffers from allergies or asthma, it is possible to experience the thrill and love of owning a pet. Here are some tips to consider when considering a pet.

Not everyone is allergic to pets. Just because you have asthma or allergies, does not mean you are certainly allergic to pets. I, have asthma and seasonal allergies, but have no problems with pets. In my home, I have three labs and two cats that give me no problems at all. In fact, I have more difficulty from the dust of the cat litter than anything. Despite my asthma and seasonal allergies, the pet dander doesn't affect me adversely.

If you or someone in your family does have allergies to pet dander, you still have options when considering a pet. If you are looking for a relaxing pet that will not give your allergies a rude awakening, consider setting up an aquarium. Fish won't set off your allergies. You can enjoy watching the beauty of the fish in the aquarium. The swimming and darting fish in many colors add life to your home.

Lizards, frogs, and snakes make good pets. Learn about reptiles and select the pet that is right for you and your family. Reptiles do not have pet dander that often spark allergic reactions.

When you think of a pet, what comes to mind for you? Frequently, people think of cats or dogs. Fish and reptiles do not seem like the perfect pet for some folks. They crave the cute and cuddly puppy or kitten. If you are this type of person, consider finding a breed of dog or cat that suits your needs. Hairless cats and dogs are available. Some think these pets are unattractive, but their skin feels fabulous. They feel baby soft.

If you crave the fuzzy fur feeling, consider a dog that doesn't shed. Eliminating the shedding often keeps allergies at bay. Schnauzers, poodles, and other breeds do not have the typical shedding problem often associated with other breeds of dogs. This may be a solution to your allergy or asthma situation.
If you suffer from allergies or asthma associated with pet dander, it is still possible to enjoy a pet in your home. Explore your options when considering a pet for your family. With a little research, you will soon

Find a pet that is just right for you. There is no need to suffer from allergies and asthma just for the love of pets.

Mouth ULCERS-------Apthous

Commonly among Mouth Ulcers, Apthous ulcers are seen. It is a common disease and is characterized by the development of the painful, recurring solitary or multiple ulcerations of the oral mucosa. Apthous Ulcer is also known as Canker Sores.

Causes of apthous cancer
There are various causative factors for Apthous Ulcers. It is mainly caused due to bacterial infection. The chief causative organism is (alpha) haemolytic streptococci or Streptococcus sanguis. The administration of Streptococcus to guinea pigs and rabbits has produced lesions of the skin and oral mucosa which appear clinically similar to apthous ulcers in the human. Recurrent aphthous ulcers have also been though to occur as a result of an autoimmune response of the oral epithelium.
During a fluorescent antibody technique, both IgG and IgM are seen binded to the spinous layer of the oral epithelium in patients suffering from Apthous ulcer. While no such binding is seen in normal healthy persons. Iron, Vitamin B12 or Folic acid deficiency may also lead to development of Apthous Ulcer are greater during the premenstrual period. While in some cases women may get relief from ulcers during pregnancy but shows rapid ulcer development after delivery. Any Psychological problem may also lead to ulceration. Patients with Recurrent Apthous Ulcer may also show a history of Asthma, Hay fever or food or drug allergies.

Clinical Features of Apthous Ulcer

It is seen more commonly in women than in men. The disease develops between the ages of 10 to 30 years. The apthous ulcer starts developing as single or multiple superficial erosion caused by a gray membrane. It generally has a well circumscribed margin surrounded by on erythematous halo

The lesion is commonly very painful, so it interferes with eating for several days. Sometimes, it was though that the apthous ulcer begins with the formation of a vesicle, but it was not as such in general. Major Apthous ulcer are characterized by the occurrence of large painful ulcers, usually one to ten in number and are present commonly on the lips, cheeks, tongue, sot palate, etc.

Herpetiform Ulcer: There are numberous small lesions found on any intraoral mucosal surface. These lesions begin as small pinhead sized erosions that slowly enlarge and unite with each other. Lesions are very painful and are present continuously for one to three years. The patient receives immediate but temporary relief from symptoms with a 2 percent tetracycline mouthwash.

Treatment of Apthous or Herpetiform Ulcers: There is a no specific treatment, although various drugs have been used. A steroid ointment about 1.5 percent cortisone acetate, applied locally shows good effect. Antibiotic mouthwashes are also helpful. For egr Tetracycline Mouthwash (250 mg per 5 ml), used four times daily for 5 to 7 days, produced a good response in near about 70% of the patients. Chemical cautery reduces pain but had no other beneficial effects. Levamisole, have been used and found to increase the immune response in a variety of ways.

Traumatic Ulcer- It has been observed that the Traumatic Ulcer may also develop of the oral mucous membrane. It is a caused by some sort of trauma. This may be an injury such as biting the mucosa, denture irritation, toothbrush injury, exposure of the meious membrane to a sharp tooth or carious lesions, or it may be injury to the mucosa by some other external irritant. The traumatic ulcers are also known as sore spots.

Healthy Skin Tips

The outer layer of your skin renews itself every 2-4 weeks, but the dermis layer is pretty permanent. The things you do to your skin in your teens and 20s can affect your skin's look almost immediately. It is critical that you take good care of your skin, and your body, if you want to look and feel good.

Tanning and Sun
Hopefully every person alive now knows the dangers of the sun and tanning. It can cause skin cancer - and not just when you are 60 or 70. I know people in their teens who have died of skin cancer. If you don't get skin cancer, you are also destroying your dermis layer. The dermis layer gives your skin its elasticity and firmness. So if you desroy your dermis, your skin looks wrinkled and saggy - even by age 21. Eat

Healthy Foods
You are what you eat, from your head down to your feet! If you eat healthy foods with nutrients, your skin reacts positively and glows. If you eat tons of junk food and sugar, your skin gets bloaty, dull and listless. It can have a direct impact on how you look.

Drink Lots of Water
You may think that drinking lots of water makes you look pudgy. But actually your body only holds onto water when it thinks there is a DROUGHT. That means if you drink only a little water, your body will cling onto it with a passion and make you look water-logged. If you drink lots of water, it lets your blood do its job flushing the toxins from your system, and your body lets the water go out of your system because it knows more is coming soon. The more water you drink, the more healthy you look and feel.

Get Lots of Sleep
You know how people who are not sleeping well have dark rings under their eyes? Your skin shows very clearly when you are not getting enough sleep. Sleep lets your body renew and refresh. Avoid Smoking
One of the best known destroyers of skin (besides the sun) is smoking. Smoking causes ALL sorts of health issues, and destruction of your skin is just one of them.

Cancer---Information

What is cancer?
Cancer is a disease of cells. It is an abnormal growth of cells which tend to proliferate in an uncontrolled way and, in some cases, to metastasize(spread).

Cancer is also called malignancy. A cancerous growth or tumor is sometimes referred to as a malignant growth or malignant tumor.

A non-malignant growth or tumor is referred to as benign. Benign tumors are not cancer. Cancer is not one disease. It is a group of more than 100 different and distinctive diseases.

Cancer is NOT contagious. Cancer can involve any tissue of the body and have many different forms in each body area. Most cancers are named for the type of cell or organ in which they start.

If a cancer spreads (metastasizes) , the new tumor bears the same name as the original (primary) tumor.

Cancer is the Latin word for crab. The ancients used the word to mean a malignancy, doubtless because of the crab-like tenacity a malignant tumor sometimes seems to show in grasping the tissues it invades.

Cancer may also be called malignancy, a malignant tumor, or a neoplasm (literally, a new growth).

How many people die of cancer each year? The following table gives the estimated numbers of new cases and deaths for each common cancer type:

Cancer Type Estimated New Cases Estimated Deaths

Home Remedies for SWEATY PALMS

SWEATY PALMS If your palms sweat more than a stool pigeon under police interrogation, you have a condition that doctors know as hyperhidrosis- -excess sweating of your palms. In nonmedical language, you might call it just plain embarrassing. But here's how to get quick, hands-on relief.

"Shock" yourself dry. "The best treatment out there is a low-level electrical current called iontophoresis, " according to Norman Levine, M.D., chief of dermatology at the University of Arizona College of Medicine Health Sciences Center in Tucson. Dr. Levine recommends a device called the Drionic that administers the low-level current.

How it works: The Drionic uses a 9-volt battery--not enough to harm you but enough to plug up over-active sweat ducts and keep them plugged for about six weeks. To remedy a sweaty palm condition, simply place your palm on top of the device for a few minutes. Further information about the Drionic is available from General Medical Company, 1935 Armacost Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90025.

Treat your palms as underarms.

For a mild case of hyperhidrosis, the solution may already be in your medicine chest. "Some people find relief by rubbing underarm antiperspirant on their palms," says Stephen M. Purcell, D.O., chairman of the Department of Dermatology at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and an assistant clinical professor at Hahnemann University School of Medicine in Philadelphia. But check the label: The kind of antiperspirant that works on clammy hands should contain aluminum chlorohydrate, the active drying ingredient.

Manage your stress.

"One effective way of remedying hyperhidrosis is through stress management," says Dr. Levine. "Learn biofeedback or practice some other stress control treatment, since this condition is at least partially brought on by stress or nervousness. "

Boil five tea bags in a quart of water for 10 minutes. When the solution cools, soak your hands for 20 to 30 minutes nightly. Tea contains tannic acid, which is also found in commercial products such as Ivy Dry, Zilactol and Zilactin. Tea bags can also be held in the palm for 10-15 minutes daily to reduce perspiring palms.

One way to reduce sweaty palms is to reduce your intake of foods rich in iodine. Vegetables to avoid include broccoli, asparagus and white onion. Meats to avoid include beef, liver and turkey.

Drinking sage tea provide an additional home remedy for sweaty palms. Zinc has also shown promise in lessening both perspiration as well as body odor. The best advice with zinc is to avoid long term use as it may interfere with copper absorption.

The "Obvious" Solution Is Not the Best

Why not dry those clammy hands with baby powder? After all, it seems like the cheapest dry-all solution.

"Baby powder might be the first thing people turn to. But rubbing powder on your palms is one of the worst things you can do, unless you have a very mild case," says Stephen M. Purcell, D.O., chairman of the Department of Dermatology at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and an assistant clinical professor at Hahnemann University School of Medicine in Philadelphia. "As the powder absorbs the perspiration, it will cake up, leaving you with sweaty, caked-up hands instead of just sweaty hands."

Angelica-----Herb.

SCIENTIFIC NAME : Angelica archangelica

COMMON NAME : European Angelica, Echt engelwurz (German)

BOTANY

Angelica is a widely cultivated, aromatic biennial, northern European herb with fleshy, spindle-shaped roots, an erect stalk, and many greenish-yellow flowers arranged in an umbel. The seeds are oblong and offwhite. It is similar to and sometimes confused with the extremely toxic water hemlock, Cicuta maculata.

HISTORY

Angelica has been cultivated as a medicinal and flavoring plant in Scandinavian countries since the 12th century and in England since the 16th century. The roots and seeds are used to distill about 1% of a volatile oil used in perfumery and as a flavoring for gin and other alcoholic beverages. The candied leaves and stems are used to decorate cakes. The oil has been used medicinally to stimulate gastric secretion, treat flatulence, and topically treat rheumatic and skin disorders.

CHEMISTRY

The volatile oil contains many monoterpenes; 3-phellandrene is the principal component of var angelica, while sabinene is the most abundant monoterpene of var. sativa. Sesquiterpenes are also numerous in the oil; a-copaene and other tricyclic sesquiterpenes are characteristic constituents.

Supercritical fluid extraction has been studied as an alternative method of extracting angelica volatiles? The shelf life of the root is limited because of the loss of the volatile oil while in storage.

The small organic acid, angelic acid, was the first compound purified from the root inpentadecanolide (Exaltolide) is a fatty acid lactone constituent of the root with a musk-like odor, used as a fixative in perfumes.

As with most of the many species of angelica, A. archangelica contains a wide variety of coumarins and their glycosides. The angular furanocoumarins, archangelicin6 and angelicin, and congeners are present in the roots, and many glycosides and esters of linear furanocoumarins have also been reported.

A trisaccharide, umbelliferose, was originally isolated from angelica roots.

PHARMACOLOGY

Angelic acid was formerly used as a sedative. The angular furanocoumarin angelicin has also been reported to have sedative properties, although recent experimental evidence of this is limited. The carminative action of the volatile oil is because of an unremarkable monoterpene content. Angelica root oil was preferentially relaxant on tracheal smooth muscle preparations compared to ileal muscle.1o The oil had no effect on skeletal muscle in a second study.

The calciumblocking activity of angelica root has been examined relative to solvent used in extraction, and furanocoumarins were identified as the likely active species. The root oil has been found to have antifungal and antibacterial activity.

INTERACTIONS

Theoretically, based on additive or synergistic effects because of coumarin or coumarin derivatives possibly present in angelica root, there is a possible increased risk of bleeding when using angelica root concurrently with warfarin. Because warfarin has a narrow therapeutic index, it would be prudent to avoid concurrent use.

TOXICOLOGY

The linear furanocoumarins are wellknown dermal photosensitizers, while the angular furanocoumarins are less toxic. The presence of linear furanocoumarins in the root indicates that the plant parts should be used with caution if exposure to sunlight is expected. The coumarins are not important constituents of the oil, which therefore gives the oil a greater margin of safety in that respect. However, poisoning has been recorded with high doses of angelica oils.

SUMMARY

Angelica and its oils have been used as digestive aids for many years in Europe. At high doses, the oils can be toxic, and furanocoumarins in the plant can cause photodermatitis.

Angelica root is official in the German and Austrian pharmacopoeias and is listed as approved in the German Commission E monographs for GI disorders, although the leaf and seed are unapproved. It was official in the United States Pharmacopeia and the National Formulary from 1820 to 1936. It is monographed in the British Herbal Pharmacopeia, and in the WHO Selected Medici. nal Plants . An American.

In Vitro Fertilisation (Test Tube Baby)--Procedure step by step

IVF – STEP BY STFP(Test Tube Baby)

1. Before starting

Screening tests will be checked and sometimes repeated. These are:

Wife
- Complete Hemogram, Blood Sugar, Urea, SGPT
- Hepatitis B [ HBsAg ]
- HIV

Husband
- Sperm test within 6 months
- Hepatitis B
- HIV

A semen sample is generally collected and stored [ cryopreserved ]. This can be used at the time of the procedure if the sample on that day is not good or if the husband is not present or is unable to give a fresh sample.

The wife is generally put on a low dose oral contraceptive pill from the 3rd / 4th / 5th day of the period. This helps in programming the treatment cycle and avoids unnecessary delays. The wife is also given iron and vitamin tablets and the husband is given a course of antibiotics.

2. Counseling

Counseling Couples with infertility problems have faced many frustrations and disappointments so they are under stress. IVF itself can be physically and emotionally taxing and the uncertainty while waiting for result can be very stressful. Consent forms must be signed before starting treatment.

3. Ovarian Stimulation :

Drugs are used to stimulate the ovaries to produce several eggs instead of the usual one to increase the chances of pregnancy. Many variations are used and yours may be different from others. The doctor will advise regarding the required drugs and its dosage.

In general there are 3 types of protocols [ Long, short and antagonist ] and 2 types of drugs [ recombinant and urinary ]. The cost of the treatment and to some extent the success rate depends on the drugs used. The doctor will discuss this before selecting and prescribing the stimulation protocol.

a. LONG PROTOCOL :

Women receiving the Long Protocol start injections on the 21st day of the previous cycle [ i.e. when about 4 – 5 oral pills are left ]. She is asked to come to MIVFG on the 2nd or 3rd day of her next period for starting the actual overiation stimulation. Sonography and sometimes a blood test is done and then the actual stimulation is started.

b. SHORT / ANTAGONIST PROTOCOL :

For women on the Short or antagonist protocol, all the injections are started on the second day of period.

Drug Treatment :

Drugs This start from the 2nd day of the cycle and lasts for about 9-12 days daily till the eggs become mature as determined by ultrasound examination and if necessary, a blood test. To minimize disruption, many women prefer their husbands / another relative / family doctor to give their injections at home or even do it themselves. It is common to have some discomfort and mild side effect while taking the drugs. The main serious side effect is over response, which is severe in about 1 in 100 stimulated cycles.

4. Ultrasound Examination

Ultrasound Examination A vaginal ultrasound examination is done after 4 days of drugs to measure the response of the ovaries. This shows the number and size of the follicles growing in the ovaries, which is a guide to how many eggs to expect and when they will be mature. This is used to decide whether the drug dosage needs any alteration and to plan the day of egg collection.

Generally about 3 scans will be carried out during the stimulation protocol. The husband is not needed during these monitoring visits.

Sometimes if the response is very poor and only one or two eggs seem likely, the chances of pregnancy may be low and doctor may suggest canceling the cycle.

5. hCG Injection

hCG injection is given to trigger the final maturing of the eggs ready for collection. Eggs collection is planned, 34-36 hours after hCG injection. The day of egg collection will usually be decided when patient has the scan and will depend on the size and number of follicles. On the day hCG is planned, the time for injection that night together with details for hospital admission for the egg collection will be informed to by the doctor. The embryologist will inform about the time for sperm collection by the husband.

6. Egg Collection

Egg identification Patient will be asked to get admitted early in the morning on the day of egg collection.
She should have nothing to eat or drink from midnight the night before the procedure.

The eggs are collected through the vagina under ultrasound control, using a fine needle, which is passed through the vagina into the ovary. Fluid from the follicles is sucked through the needle into a test tube and is passed immediately to the laboratory next door where the scientists check for eggs under the microscope. The eggs are then placed in culture fluid in special dishes in the incubator at body temperature. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia, but can be carried out under sedation if patient prefers. The procedure takes about 15-30 minutes. Patient will be able to go home about 2 - 3 hours after the procedure and arrangements will be made for her ET time two or three days later. It is common to have some vaginal bleeding after egg collection from where the needle passes through the vaginal wall. This usually settles in one to two days and does not affect your chances of pregnancy. Some discomfort from the swelling of the ovaries is common and any painkiller can be safely used. Although this is a very minor surgery, it is not without risk.

7. Sperm Collection

A fresh sperm sample is collected on the day of egg collection. This can be done just before or just after egg collection. In case, the husband requires the presence of his wife for semen collection, he should inform this to the embryologist, so that arrangements can be made likewise. The sperm sample is best produced by masturbation and there is a room for this purpose. Lubricants should NOT be used as they can effect fertilization. It is difficult for some men to produce a sperm sample on request. If he is worried about this aspect he should discuss it with the doctor before starting treatment, so that arrangements can be made to freeze some semen, which can be used if necessary. If he lives close to the hospital, it may be possible for him to produce the sperm sample at home. Sexual activity may continue during the treatment cycle. Unless advised otherwise, it is better not to ejaculate for 2 days before the egg collection. However, more than 4 or 5 days without ejaculation may reduce sperm quality.

8.
After Egg Collection

Sperm immobilisation

Sperm catching

Egg penetration

Sperm injection

Following egg collection, the eggs will be fertilized either by standardIVF or by ICSI .

Fertilisationcheck
In about 15% of cycle no eggs fertilize. If this happens, you will be advised on the day after egg collection.

9.Embryo Transfer(ET)

Embryos ET is done two or three days after egg collection. It is simple procedures needing no medication. The women's legs are rested in stirrups and the embryo passed through the cervix into the uterus through a very fine soft plastic tube. It takes only a few minutes and is usually only as uncomfortable as having a pap smear. There is no need to rest afterwards; you may go straight home or back to work and all normal activity including sexual intercourse is permitted.

Embryo GradingO.K.

However, heavy work like lifting weights, climbing staircase etc. should be avoided. Our counselor will help you in making the period after ET as stress free as possible. If there are more than three good quality embryos, it may be possible to freeze them for later transfer. This will be discussed with you before ET. Separate consent form must be signed for embryo freezing. The wife will be asked to take some injections and / or tablets after embryo transfer to support the luteal phase.

10. Pregnancy Test

You will be given a date for a pregnancy test about 14 or 15 days after embryo transfer. It is important that you get the test done even if you have a period, as there is a small chance of pregnancy even then. If it is positive we will arrange an ultrasound examination 7 – 10 days later. If the test is negative, further treatment will depend on whether you have frozen embryos stored or not.

INTRACYTOPLASMIC SPERM INJECTION (ICSI)

Micro manipulator ICSI is a process in which the embryologist collects a single sperm using a highly specialized microscope and specially developed fine glass needles and injects it directly into the center of an egg. This process is repeated for each of the mature eggs that have been collected.

ICSI is mainly used for couples with extremely poor sperm count OR where there has been poor fertilization in previous IVF cycle OR where there is reason to believe that ICSI will be the only way to achieve fertilization. It is also used in patients with Azoospermia, where sperm are obtained by testicular biopsy or epididymal aspiration.

II. FROZEN EMBRYO TRANSFER CYCLE

Embryo freezingTreatment protocol for transfer of frozen embryos is very simple. The wife is put on tablets [ estradiol valerate ] from the 2 nd day of her periods for proper development of the lining of the uterus. She will have to come for sonography once or twice to monitor the response. When the lining has developed properly, progesterone tablets are added and embryo transfer is carries out 2 or 3 days later. Husband is not required during the entire treatment cycle

Infections during Pregnancy and Birth deffects

Infections during pregnancy can cause a variety of birth defects.

Some examples are:

Congenital rubella (the infection posing the highest risk for fetal damage) syndrome is characterized by vision and/or hearing loss, heart defects, mental retardation, and cerebral palsy.

Toxoplasmosis infection of the mother can result in eye infections that threaten vision, hearing loss, learning disabilities, enlarged liver or spleen, mental retardation, and cerebral palsy in the infant.

Genital herpes virus infection of the mother can cause brain damage, cerebral palsy, vision or hearing impairment, and death of the baby if the virus is transmitted to the infant before or during the birth.

Fifth disease can cause a dangerous form of anemia, heart failure, and, in some cases, fetal death,

Congenital varicella syndrome, which is caused by chicken pox, can lead to scars, defects of muscle and bone, malformed and paralyzed limbs, a smaller-than- normal head, blindness, seizures, and mental retardation. This is an uncommon occurrence in pregnant women who become infected with chicken pox.

Talk to your health care provider about ways you can avoid these infections while you're pregnant and what you should do if you're exposed to any of them.

Hepatitis B-Treatment,Diet and more

Hepatitis B--Treatment,

Treatment: Acute Infection

At present, there are no specific treatments for benign acute viral hepatitis. Current therapy should be aimed to support and to maintain comfort. As with most forms of hepatitis, alcohol consumption should be minimized, if not eliminated altogether. This helps the liver recover. Use of adrenocorticosteroi ds, recommended by some, appears to have no effect curing the underlying disease. Furthermore, it appears that use of steroids in early treatment of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection may result in the development of a persistent infection. Therapeutic effectiveness of interferon use on the prognosis and course of acute HBV infection remain unknown.

Treatment: Chronic Infection
A number of elements has been used in the treatment of chronic HBV. The goals of treatment are three-fold: to eliminate infectivity and transmission of HBV to others, to arrest the progression of liver disease and improve the clinical prognosis, and to prevent the development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

Currently, there are several treatments being used. Interferon alpha use is most common, but now lamivudine (3TC), and others are being looked at as potential therapeutic agents. Combinations of antiviral drugs are being used with some success.

Antivirals: The following list includes those which are still in their experimental stages.

1. Acyclovir (Zovirax, Glaxo Wellcome)
2. Adefovir Dipivoxil (GS 840 - Gilead Sciences Inc)
3. Adenine Arabinoside (ARA-AMP)
4. Famciclovir (Famvir - SmithKline Beecham)
5. Ganciclovir (Ganciclovir IV-Roche-Syntex)
6. Lamivudine (3TC, Epivir, Zeffix - Glaxo Wellcome PLC)
7. Lobucavir - Bristol-Myers Squibb
8. N-Acetyl-Cysteine

Immune System Modulators:

1. Hepagene - Medeva
2. Interferon Alpha
3. Thymosin Alpha (Zadaxin - SciClone Pharmaceuticals)

Mixed Treatments:

1. Interferon Alpha + Famciclovir
2. Thymosin Alpha (Zadaxin) + Famciclovir
3. Thymosin Alpha (Zadaxin) + Lamivudine
None of these treatments can be called a cure. A true cure for this disease still remains elusive.

Alternative Treatments

Since there is no cure, many individuals have sought other sources of therapy for their damaged liver. Though many swear by these alternative treatments, they should be taken with caution. One should remember that though these alternative treatments come from natural sources, harmful side-effects may also follow. Most alternative treatments do not target the virus. They typically boost the liver's health.

1. Dandelion Root
2. Liquorice Root
3. Milk Thistle (Silymarin)
Selenium
4. Vitamin E

Healthy Diet

Eating a balanced and healthy diet will minimize any excess damage done to an infected liver and may even expedite liver recovery. It should be remembered that virtually everything we eat must pass through the liver.

1. Eat a well balanced and nutritious diet (i.e. food from each of the food groups).
2. Cut down on the intake of deep-fried and fatty foods.
3. Minimize or abstain (if possible) from alcohol consumption. Alcohol is detoxified by the liver and excessive alcohol consumption results in additional levels of liver damage.
4. Minimize your consumption of smoked, cured, and salted foods. Try using alternative seasonings when cooking (e.g. lemon juice, onion, vinegar, garlic, pepper, cloves, etc.).
5. MEAT, FISH, POULTRY & ALTERNATIVES TO MEAT provide protein, vitamin A, iron, vitamin B12, niacin, fiber, and thiamin. However, it has been stated by many physicians that consumption of meat and seafood should be reduced since digesting/processin g these forms of food can further tax the liver.
6. BREAD & CEREALS provide carbohydrates, niacin, thiamin, riboflavin, and fiber.
7. FRUITS & VEGETABLES provide vitamin A, vitamin C, fiber, and folacin.
M8. ILK & MILK PRODUCTS provide calcium, riboflavin, niacin, folacin, vitamin A, and vitamin B12..
8. Increased intake of high-fiber foods (i.e. fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grain breads, rice, and cereals) is especially helpful in keeping one healthy.
9. Avoid uncooked or partly cooked food such as marjnated meat since it may carry harmful bacteria

Liver Transplants

Liver transplants are sometimes required by those with extensive liver damage due to viral (or non-viral) causes. However, there are many factors to consider before getting a liver transplant. First and foremost, transplantation is a complex operation that requires a suitable donor. Also, there is usually a long waiting list for those wishing to receive a transplant. Moreover, transplanting a liver into a chronically hepatitis B infected individual presents the likelihood that the newly transplanted liver may become reinfected unless certain preventive measures are taken like Hepatitis-B immunoglobin. Transplant operations tend to be relatively expensive procedures. Not all hospitals may be able to perform such an operation.Despite these problems, for some individuals, liver transplants may offer the only hope for a healthy life.

New Therapy of Hepatitis-B.
SciClone Pharmaceuticals today announced that results from the Company's Taiwan phase 3 trial published in Hepatology (May 1998) demonstrate that ZADAXIN(R) thymosin alpha 1 is effective and safe in the treatment of chronic hepatitis B. Importantly, the ZADAXIN complete virologic response rate (the conversion from both hepatitis B virus positive to negative and hepatitis B e antigen positive to negative) in the study continues to increase even when measured one year after the end of treatment.

The publication on the study's primary site data, written by Professor Yun-Fang Liaw, M.D. and his colleagues of the Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Taiwan, included 98 Asian patients with chronic hepatitis B. At the start of the study, patients were randomized to receive 1.6 mg of ZADAXIN two times per week for 26 weeks, 52 weeks or no treatment. Patients were followed for a total of 18 months.

The publication highlights that patients receiving ZADAXIN showed:

Statistically significant increase in conversion from both hepatitis B virus positive to negative and hepatitis B e antigen positive to negative.
At the end of the study, 40.6% of patients receiving 1.6 mg of ZADAXIN twice per week for 26 weeks tested negative for both hepatitis B virus and hepatitis B e antigen (an immune response to the hepatitis B virus that can indicate long lasting remission of the disease) compared to 9.4% of patients in the control group, a statistically significant result (p=.004).
Statistically significant histological improvement. Patients responding to ZADAXIN showed statistically significant improvement in liver histology (inflammation of the liver) (p<.05), consistent with the ultimate goals of therapy for hepatitis B -- to prevent progression to serious liver disease, including liver cancer and cirrhosis

Experienced no significant side effects.
Professor Liaw and his co-workers, commenting on this recent Hepatology article, said: ``Thymosin alpha 1 is safe and effective in the treatment of chronic hepatitis B. The thymosin alpha 1 response rate is statistically significant in the six month treatment group when compared to control. It also reduces liver inflammation. Thymosin alpha 1 therapy offers renewed hope in the fight against chronic hepatitis B.''

Hepatitis B is a potentially deadly liver disease and one of the most common causes of death in the world. According to the World Health Organization, approximately 350 million people, or 5% of the world's population, are chronic carriers of the hepatitis B virus in their blood. These carriers of the hepatitis B virus have a 200-fold increased chance of developing serious liver disease, including liver cancer, the most common cancer in the world, and cirrhosis. Currently, ZADAXIN and interferon (a drug that produces a sustained response in less than one third of Asian patients treated and causes debilitating side effects) are the only established therapies for hepatitis B in certain Asian markets, including the People's Republic of China.

SciClone markets ZADAXIN in the People's Republic of China, the Philippines and Singapore for the treatment of hepatitis B. The drug also has been approved in Peru and Kuwait for treatment of hepatitis B and in Argentina and Italy as an influenza vaccine adjuvant. SciClone's exclusive Japanese partner, Schering-Plough K.K., recently launched a Phase 3 study of ZADAXIN in Japan for hepatitis B. SciClone has 18 ZADAXIN hepatitis B marketing applications pending in Asia, Latin American and the Middle East. SciClone intends to file a ZADAXIN hepatitis B marketing application in Taiwan during the second quarter.

SciClone Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is an international biopharmaceutical company that acquires, develops and commercializes specialist-oriented drugs for treating chronic and life-threatening diseases, including hepatitis B, hepatitis C, cystic fibrosis, cancer and immune system disorders.

Hepatitis B Carrier Fact Sheet.

Hepatitis B Virus infects the liver. The virus is in blood, semen, menstrual blood and other body fluids.5 to 10% of adults and about 90% of babies who get hepatitis B will go on to "carry" or keep the virus for the rest of their lives. These people are called "hepatitis B Carriers". They may not be sick, but they can pass the virus on to others and make others sick with hepatitis B.

People who are hepatitis B carriers can lead normal, healthy lives Most hepatitis B carriers do not feel sick or look sick. However, carriers have a higher risk o becoming sick with liver disease and liver cancer. Carriers need to have the regular care of the doctor.

There are simple ways that hepatitis B carriers can stay healthy.

1.Do not drink alcohol, it can damage the liver.
2. Tell your doctor that you are a hepatitis B carrier; ask about any treatment or tests that might help.
4.Ask a doctor before taking any medicine, even herbal medicines or medicines that can be bought without a prescription (aspirin, for example)
5. Do not inject (shoot) drugs. This makes it easier to get two other types o hepatitis (hepatitis C & D) which also damage the liver. Get help form a drug treatment center to get off drugs.
6. Get vaccinated against hepatitis A. (different viral infection.)

There are things carriers can do to keep form infecting other with hepatitis B

1. The people who are in danger of getting hepatitis B infection from a carrier are people in close contact with the carrier. Anyone who has contact with blood, semen, or other body fluids of a carrier is a "close contact". Examples of close contacts are sexual partners, people living in the same hose as the carrier, and babies born to women who are carriers. Carriers should tell close contacts about their infection.
2.Pregnant women who are hepatitis B carriers should tell their doctor about their infection. It will be important to give the new baby shots after it is born to protect it form getting hepatitis B. it is okay to breastfeed if the baby is getting shots to protect it from hepatitis B.
3. Hepatitis B carriers who have sex should use a latex condom every time they have sex
4. Never share syringes or needles for ear and body piercing or for shooting drugs
5. Never donate blood, plasma, body organs, tissue or sperm, if you are a hepatitis B carrier.

People who are not close contacts are not at risk for getting hepatitis B. carriers do not have to talk about their infection with anyone that is not a close contact. It is okay to share meals with family and friends.

Vaccination and good hygiene can protect close infection with hepatitis B

1. There is a test to see if a person has beeninfect4ed with the hepatitis B virus. Close friends should see a doctor for this test.
2. A vaccine (shots can be given to protect people from getting hepatitis B. close contact should see a doctor to get these shots.
3. Never share anything that may have come in contact with the blood or body fluids of a carrier. Examples of things that should not be shared are cigarettes, toothbrushes, razors, scissors, nail files, or clippers.
4. Cover all cuts, blisters and open sores with a bandage.
5. Wash hands well, especially after touching blood
6. Wash and wipe up blood cells. Clean the area using a mixture of household bleach and water (1 ½ cups of bleach in a gallon of water) to kill the hepatitis B virus.
